OK you say Christian Heritage then you are way off base. Being a Christian has nothing to do with heritage. You will find the definition of heritage below and it is something that is passed down from generation to generation. Being a Christian is something you have to accept. It's NOT passed down. Just because my mom's a Christian does not mean I'm going to heaven or an automatic Christian. Maybe you should check with your pastor, you may have never accepted Christ into your life if you believe that a Christian is inherited. This may be part of the shame you are feeling.

American Heritage Dictionary - Cite This Source her·i·tage (hr-tj) Pronunciation Key
n.
Property that is or can be inherited; an inheritance.
Something that is passed down from preceding generations; a tradition.
The status acquired by a person through birth; a birthright: a heritage of affluence and social position.

It's pretty bad when you are ashamed of your own heritage. Why are so you ashamed of that? If it's because of your friends? If so, then they must not be very good friends. I'm sure that everyone has something about their heritage that they are not proud of, but their also not ashamed of it either, and there's a big difference in not being proud of something and being ashamed of something. I really think you need to think about who your true friends really are because, if they are truly a friend to you, then they wouldn't judge you or make fun of you for your heritage

I'm not clear what you are feeling ashamed of. Many religions have contradicting sects, and hypocritical members, as well as inconsistent dogmas. As religions break down into more and more churches with dogmatic differences, it seems the obvious and final division is back to the individual in their relation to their Higher Power. People often need 'religion' to get agreement when they are not secure enough within their own experiences of our spiritual nature.

That's a personal battle that only you can fight. If your ashamed
of something in your life you should not carry it around as a drain
on your life, you need to confront it acknowledge it personally bless it in your heart and dump it. Then go on with your life without looking back. The opposite of that is to try and live your
life in a manner that amends matters but then the issue is still
in charge.

Pray to overcome the shame, Ask for forgiveness. Jesus said You be ashamed of me, And I will be ashamed of you. My friend, shame and doubt are but human emotions. They can be forgiven if only you ask. Don't be ashamed of who you are or what you believe.
