I am a stylist as well. I do this all the time. Just do a bowl and brush touch up as you normally would. Just be careful to only touch her new growth. It's that easy. I'm assuming this client is pretty grey. I usually highlight these clients every other time. Also, I try to recommend a glaze on her ends while her touch up is on just to refresh the highlights, and give hair overall shine. When she is due for her highlights.. (next time) You can highlight right over your touch up. The lightner works right through any make of hair color. Highlights will need to be toned, but this is how I treat all grey clients that want a base with highlights.... Good luck! Promise... this will work. DO it daily.

a lot will depend on the levels you are working with ..lighter levels 7-10 no problem..apply color just to the new growth area then with fingers carefully bring the color down through the ends the last ten min. to the hair on top to refresh previous color and help blend..
levels 6 and up with 7 or less highlights would be tough..i would do the same thing as above but the h/l are really going to stand out and will not look that good..try to talk her into letting you foil just a few of the new growth of the high-lites to help blend...

i would add highlights of a different color into the hair. don't touch up all the roots, just enough to make it all blend together. they say when you want the roots to grow out in the most natural way this is how it should be done. add enough of the new color through the length of the hair to make it grow out invisibly.

just put it on the roots...if she just want to let the hilights grow out...its going to look like crap in about 2 months...suggest that you color it all, or do all the roots and then, just do root highlights inbetween to make it look even...if you do a good job you'll have a new client

I don't know why is she being stupid! Really just tell her to get her hair all the way redone because she will have to get those highlightes redone sometime. Im sorry I can't help. she's dumb. Good luck though!

you can apply a conditioner to the highlights
to protect, then apply the touch-up.
Or wait until a re highlight is needed
then do the touch-up then re highlight.
