Please don't just do a quick search and return with "Well, UPS and Fedex won't ship unless you have a FFL".

I know that, but, what about gun parts, In theory perhaps enough parts to re-assemble. Anyone out there have personal knowledge?

The frame of the pistol (the part that accepts the magazine) is the serialized and controlled/regulated part of the firearm. You can ship any other parts by any way you want. To ship a whole pistol (or the frame), which are regulated, you have to have a dealer ship it to another dealer. You personally may ship a pistol using Fedex Overnight Express to a gunsmith or factory repair center (for repair or replacement) without having a license (but only in this manner and for this reason). Under no circumstances can you ship a pistol or frame directly to another person who is not a dealer or FFL.

There are some exceptions related to 03 FFLs...

A side message to all the above answers, with a C&R, a private individual can send a complete, working and ready to fire firearm from his residence, to another C&R holders residence, FFL does not come into play at all in this case, but the firearm MUST meet the C&R criteria. You can ship a complete firearm thru UPS or FedEx back to the factory for repairs, they in turn can ship directly to the sender when they complete their job.

You can ship your gun to an FFL holder and they can ship it back to you, no problems. You can ship all the parts, except the receiver.

I have bought barrels, upper receivers and no end of other little bits and pieces and just had them shipped home. But the receivers have to be shipped to an FFL.

I wonder if you can ship to yourself, FedEx and UPS both do a hold-for-collection service and it would be an interesting way of avoiding the grief and risk of shipping a firearm as checked baggage.

No. You must be an FFL to ship a receiver.
