I'm travelling from Raleigh to Pittsburgh, and I'm passing through Washington from I-95N, onto the Capital beltway and onto 270N. I love shopping and I'm hoping there is some good malls near these highways or just off them? I've driven the route before a long time ago and I do remember seeing 2 malls but I never stopped at them.

I'm only looking for ones just off the highway, the one's you can see from the exits.

There are quite a few malls in the northern Virginia & Maryland Area... In peticular if you are traveling on 495 towards the I270 split the first mall you will pass is Tysons Corner Center. It is AMAZING. They just added a entire wing with alot of new eateries and stores. If you take the Route 7 exit towards tysons the next light you come to make a right you will see the mall directly in front of you. The second mall is called Tysons Galleria. It is an upscale mall with Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Ave and a few other stores. If you take the exit after route 7, called Chain Bridge 123 exit it will be going towards Vienna. The third mall you will come across before the 270 spur is Westfields Montgomery Mall right after you get onto 270. This mall is good but not as big as tysons and not as many select stores. I take 495 to 270 almost every weekend going from Fairfax county to school in WV you will see Tysons from the road if you pass it. I hope you have fun!

You can see the Francis Scott Key Mall in Frederick next to I-270. Take Exit 31, MD 85 North and make the first right into the mall. The mall has a Macy's and is the easiest mall to access from I-270. You can also see a Target, Wal-Mart and Kohls in Germantown, MD. Take Exit 16, MD 27 North and make a right at the first traffic light and make a left into the shopping center complex.

To get to Montgomery Mall, one has to sit through a couple of lights and then negotiate a tricky entrance.

Tyson's Corner is also complicated to get to, as mentioned by the other posters.

The other poster is referring to Potomac Mills Outlets - which is located in Prince William County, VA - NOT Centreville. Fair Oaks Mall is adjacent to I-66 in Centreville, VA; the asker did not mention I-66 in the question.

If you want a more upscale experience, go to Tysons (two malls there Saks, Tiffany's Cartier, Mont Blanc, etc). Just make sure you take 495 West once you get to Springfield. The highways there (where 395/495/95 converge) are a mess so be careful to look for the signs.

Tysons has it's own exit from 495 and is West of DC.

If you want outlets, Potomac Mills is in Dale City about 20 minutes south of DC just off 95 so you don't have to worry about getting lost.

There are more options but most will take you out of the way without giving you much more than you would find anywhere else on the east coast.

You want to go to Tysons Corner Mall. Or Tysons Galleria, across the street to the west.

From NC, when you're about 20 miles south of DC, take the Capital Beltway, I-495, west. That's the way you'd go to get to I-270 anyway. Exit onto Route 7 westbound (Leesburg Pike.) You will cross back over I-495, and then Tysons Corner will be on your right, only about 2 blocks away.

They have their own website, shoptysons.com.

Ample free parking, and a very safe area. Lots of stores, movies, and restaurants. And lots of other stores in the immediate area. Enjoy!

For the big stuff, MD has Arundel Mills and VA has Potomac Mills mall. There is also Georgetown Park Mall in DC, The Fashion Center at Pentagon City, Springfield Mall, Fair Oaks Mall, plus Reston and Dulles Town Centers.

Google any of these and check out what is there before you go.

Hope this helps!

Montgomery Mall is off of I-495 and I-270 in Rockville. Springfield Mall is off of I-495 and I-95 south at the springfield interchange. Tysons Corner is off of I-495 west on Gallows road if you are on the outer loop of the beltway in Virginia headed toward I-270 in Maryland. Good luck!

Oh, how I love Tysons Corner! There is so much at the mall and surrounding area. You will have a great time. Nordstroms, Talbots, Starbucks, Hecht's, Coldwater Creek, the list is endless! Have a wonderful time. I wish I was there!

I get to visit once a year when I see my daughter, sister and her family in VA.

Oops, Tysons is in Virginia.
