Today when I was eating at McDonalds with my spouse I saw the weirdest thing. These four high school kids around 15-17 years of age came in. They seemed to be typical teenagers except for one of the girls had a baby pacifier in her mouth. It was attached to her shirt like a toddler would have. She only took it out once for like a second in the twenty minutes we were there, and it was obviously a real paci. When she talked she just kind of shifted it around a little bit, and it severally muffled her speech. We've never seen anything like that and it made us wonder if this is what happens when parents do not parent. We're interested in any feedback.

It sounds like either a teenage prank or that the girl was "rolling" on Ecstasy or something other party drug. Rave or house parties back in the 90's often featured pacifiers as party favors to enhance drug use.

BTW, one day at work, I saw a little girl (about 7 or 8 y/o) with a pacifier in her mouth and she was bouncing a ball. The mother acted like it was normal!

Bottle fed babies and much different than breast fed babies. Using the bottle can be tricky. This is what I would suggest: first hold your baby when being fed. Give a few ounces then burp the baby. Make sure the diaper is changed before feeding so the baby can be comfortable if he or she falls asleep. If the formula stays down and all is well in the bowel moment department it should be ok. Babies do like to suck too. It is not bad to have a pacifier. Just give a lot of TLC and enjoy. Sometimes soft music and singing helps to get the child the love and care that is so very important at this age.

I am 17 and I use a pacifier many people use them for when they use party drugs and **** cuz it hurts when you grind your teeth but I'm addicted to mine. I only have two and they are both named I stopped using them when I was about two Years old but recently maybe a year or so ago i had put my little sisters paci in my mouth because she had spit it out and I became addicted. I want mine 24/7 and it helps with stress and as well I am a DD/LG little but they aren't just for druggies as most think

She was either hopped up on drugs or just doing it to get attention. When I was in high school I knew several girls who sucked un pacifiers and suckers all the time. So who knows maybe the fad came back.

It was probably something that she was doing for fun. BUt you never know. That kind of stuff is acually more common then you would think. I know a girl that's 12 years old and still sucks her thumb. Not even just to do it...she jus never got out of that habit. My boyfriend and i were acually having a conversation about this not too long ago. He knows a friend of his in Detroit (19) that bites his index finger, he's been doing it since he was born. hope this helped you at all.

I have seen high school kids with pacifiers, and they have always been black. Nothing raciest just the truth. Even when I was in school it was the same way. If someone could explain it, I would like to know why myself.

I have never seen someone that old that uses a pacifier, unless she was just trying to be "cute" or it could have been a dare. My nephew is the oldest child i have ever seen with one, but he has a lot of problems. He's four and is severely autistic and has XYY syndrome. Poor little guy. :-( He's a sweety though!

Really? Just today? Well, I find it ridiculous, but I know that it was a fad a few years ago. I thought it had since gone out of style, but apparently not.

It's kind of like Harajuku girls in Tokyo, isn't it? Except these ones are mobile versions who walk around entertaining everyone and you don't have to go to them.

LOL--it's not the parents fault. It is a teenage trend. I've known so many teenagers who have used pacifiers just to be "cool." I don't understand why it is that they think it's cool but I guess it is.

The parents probably don't even know she still uses a pacifier.

My husband just informed me that it prevents "lock jaw." This happens when you use drugs like crack.
