This is assuming your cat likes it, too. I want to find a cat litter that forms clumps upon urination, that is also very good at absorbing odors for a fair price...

I live by Yesterday's News or Tidy Cat both are great with keeping the smell at bay.

After trying just about everything - I finally settled on Feline Pine. It smells good and stays that way.....and I'm a very lazy litter box cleaner :o\

It starts out as hard pellets (no airborne produt) and as it's used it disintegrates into saw dust (the dampness keeps it from being a powdery dust)

My cat doesn't seem to mind the pellet stage - but some may. The pellets aren't the best at covering solid waste - so my kitty gets at least 2 or 3 days a month where I actually scoop daily.

Because I know that I"m a lazy box cleaner - my one cat has a very large litter box and a 7 lb bag (about $3) fills it properly and lasts the full month. And most important, since it's a covered box - there is virtually no ammonia smell until the 4th week....when it's cleaning time.

(To the person that uses SWheat - I loved the smell and texture....but how in the world do you clean the box? It became like concrete in the corners and even wetting it down it just became like hardened oatmeal. Did I miss some trick to it?)

If you want a good clumping litter, nothing beats Arm and Hammer. It clumps very well and ahrd, so you can remove it with crumbling. And the smell is so clinical due to the baking soda they use, so there is virually no poo2 nor pee2 smell.

But AH's price is not that cheap. And don't flush it down the toilet unless you get the flushable type.

A more affordable clumping litter is Cat's Best Oko Plus. It is wood based and clumps quite well, though not as good as AH. Odour control is quite good. Only issue is the sawdust flying after it has been used for a while.

My cat will only use Clay litter, she doesn't seem to notice the difference between the brands so we now just buy the generic one. We tryed crystals once, but she refused to go in the litter tray - not a good thing when you own an indoor cat...
she does seem to known when I've spent more on her new collar (she gets a new one every 6 months.) and struts around with her head held high, which is really cute. So save money buy generic and then you can spoil your precious lil cat in other ways.
Also check the Max crude protein level on the tin of cat food. It should be no higher than 12 and the min. Crude protein should be no higher than 3. This will also help to reduce odours and it will make for a very healthy cat too.

I used to swear by Tidy Catt but recently I found that Fresh Step is THE BESTEST ever!!! It is awesome for odor control & it clumps up better than any other litter Ive used...it has a fresh smell & also controls odor for a long time, I NEVER smell the litter box. My cat seems to like it also the only thing I can say thats maybe not super great about it is that is isnt dust free, there is a littel bit of dust when you pour it. This isnt a big factor to me but to some peole it is so I thought it worth mentioning.. Best of luck!

I use Tidy Cats Crystals, but a good clumping litter for odors is Tidy Cats Small Spaces.

Well not for a fair price but 'Clean & Clear' is so good. It really works. You can sift it everyday & not lose too much...it lasts & odor is not an issue. SO....since I can't afford to use it all the time, I buy higher-end brand names on sale for the best price I can find I.E. Arm & Hammer, Fresh Step, etc. It just seems to me that you gotta buy somewhere close to top brand for it to really work. Sift & toss EVERYday & use baking soda or one of those scented baking soda products meant for carpets. My litter box almost NEVER smells! For a really fair price I've seen many recommendations on this site for a brand that you can buy at Walmart.. A professional pet product guy around the corner told me that any clumping litter should be at least 3 inches deep to work properly (even more money, eh?). But not really.....I sift, then top off with fresh litter & baking soda until it's time to clean & sterilize.

Swheat Scoop is great, it doesnt leave that nasty dust smell to where you cant breath, its all natural with less chemicals reducing the chance of uti's in cat and clumps very well and my cat doesnt seem to have a problem with it. Its also fairly priced and lasts for quite a while. Tidy cats and Arm & Hammer were very dusty, I didnt care for them, but hey you might like them, but I prefer Swheat Scoop

To the person who asked how I cleaned the litter box, I dont, I have an automatic one. I am lazy too, haha.

Arm and Hammer is greaaaaaaaaat, I have a few cats, so it's great for multiple cats too. Smells great and keeps the odor at bay. It clumps good too. I pay about 7 bucks for it.

We use Tidy Cat at our house...the scoopable clumping kind. We have 10 cats and never an odor. You just have to be sure to clean the litterbox at least once a day.

I use Tidy Cat's "Crystals Blend." It works very well at dealing with odor. I have an automatic litter box for my two cats, and it works well with the mechanism, too. I tried the generic stuff at Petco/Petsmart - BIG mistake.
