We recently got a Shipoo puppy and when it's just family at home she's fine. But when friends or people she's not familiar with come over she barks at them. Sometimes she'll sniff them a little but then bark. I don't think it's aggressive, but sometimes if they try to pet her and she don't like it she acts like she might bite them. Any solutions to stop her from barking?

You will ask your guests not to acknowledge the dog/s as they enter the yard/house etc...don't look at the dog, do not gesture the dog, simply ignore it, after a while your dog will simply stop doing this annoying behaviour, and your quests will be happier as well. Good luck.

Her crate shouldnt be used for punishment. As someone else said try a rolled up newspaper and firm smack on the nose. Also, have your guests hold out a favorite treat of hers and let her approach them. Have her sit (if she does not know sit, most dogs will generally sit after a few minutes of not getting what they know you have). Once she sits (for a few seconds at first, then gradually longer), have them give her the treat. She probably feels that they are a threat to her territory, this will help her to learn that guests need not be feared.

Tell your dog "NO" when it does something you do not want it doing. Be consistant. Unless there is a real threat the dog should be able to learn that company is okay, since you are okay with letting them in. As far as people trying to touch the dog, I always tell people to let the dog warm up to them, ignore them and usually the dog will get used to the new people in the house.

My canines used to have the comparable situation, different than she's a small canines so our travelers never particularly minded different than her ear-splittingly loud barking. yet anyhow, what I did replaced into call pals and close neighbours over as in lots of cases as a threat as fake-travelers and that i've got been given them to maintain giving her treats. I even have been given them to tell her to take a seat down, bypass down, stay down + greater cope with-feeding, and letting her sniff their hand and slowwwly, gently attain as much as supply her a mild pat on the top. on the commencing up issues have been tough, she'd do the comparable as your canines does this is settle for a couple of minutes and then initiate charging/barking back, yet I stored at it over and over and in a pair of week she confirmed greater than a number of progression. She'd nevertheless bark at human beings exterior the door, yet she did no longer recommendations as a lot while human beings relatively got here interior. good now, she nevertheless barks at human beings exterior yet I enable her bark a pair cases and then quit her with a "Shh!!" (which includes greater preparation; say Shhh!! and then in the experience that your canines pauses barking and seems at then you definitely compliment and reward with a cope with). basically shop at it and don't provide up, I almost gave up yet now i'm particularly happy i attempted, so sturdy success!!

Well. You have to tell your guest to be nice to dog or can play with your dog.. Dog will stop barking and want to be petted and love. Because Your dog is not familar to your guest. Dog will know that your guests may be stranger. Make sure your dog is familar to your guest. Then, dog will stop barking. Dont worry.

Ignoring poor behavior only works for children, and that's even iffy. When your dog misbehaves, discipline immediately. Dogs are naturally eager to please their owners. A roll of newspaper or a specific time out spot, like a kennel was always effective for me. You have to let the dog know you are serious, do not apologize for the discipline and definitely use the word NO when teaching what not to do.
