Most cockatiels are wonderful birds, they are very "flock" animals and that means more than one. If you are really looking for a cockatiel that is hand tamed and well adjusted you should find a local rescue and inquire about one. Pet store birds tend to be a little more bitey and rescue people tend to be more hands on with them. Breeders are mostly just looking to get you a bird and don't care what happens to it after you take it home, rescuers on the other hand will work with you to make the bird a great fit in your home.
They are pretty hardy birds but do require warmth to stay this way, they were imported from Austraila and it is pretty warm down under. Keep the temperature between 68-78 and you should have a happy and healthy tiel.
Males tend to be more noisy but they all can sing up a storm when they are happy. We've got more than a few and it just depends on the bird if they can talk, sing songs, and learn tricks. We've even got one that dances to Charlie and the Chocolate factory music.
Please check around for a reputable rescue and ask them some penatrating questions on the way they care for them. Go see where they live and how they react to other birds and people. A cockatiel or two can be a wonderful addition to many a household, but they are a commitment that needs care and attention, and mostly your love.

I have 2 cockatiels and 2 love birds. When buying one, make sure it is hand fed as a baby, then it will be use to the human touch. Be prepared to clean up a lot of mess. Birds are very messy and love to throw seed around.

They are a great pet, but please use as much natural materials for the cage as possible. Using real branches from real trees rather than ones supplied with the bird cages. This is very important for the birds feet. Try feeding more natural diet, rather than packets of seeds bought from the supermarket. Go outside when your trees are in full flower, (you can take some from the nature strips if need be) and bring in the whole twigs, branches with the flowers/seeds on them, your bird will love you for it. The idea is to simulate the natural environment, if you don;t then you will probably have a sick and unhappy bird on your hands. Speak with your local pet store owner and he will advise you on the rest. Good luck.

I like mine! They are very friendly and outgoing little birds! They are not to noisy. They love to whistle and sing! They love to sit on shoulders and hangout with you. They love to eat breakfast cereal out of your bowl, so watch out there. They do make a mess but it is easy to clean up. They are rather dusty. Just the nature of the bird. They don't have the oil gland for preening like other birds do. That is why they are rather dusty. If you need any additional help or advice feel free to email me. I love to try and help new bird owners get a good start!

They can be noisy, but they are one of the more durable birds sold in pet stores. As long as they're in 65-80 degree house, it should be fine.
Just like any other pet, they have their own personalities. When you go looking for one, some will hiss and bite at you, others will want to hop on your shoulder. Get the friendlier one.

They arent as noisy as a conure or large parrot. Lookk for a breeder in your area and pay the extra for a hand fed baby. they are more tame and easier tohandle because they are used to being held and look to humans for there food.
