Lead vests aren't used so much anymore. Also, the radiology tech isn't in the room when the patient receives the treatment. I'm just wondering about whether or not it's dangerous for the techs to always be around the machinery. Sorry, guess I wasn't clear with my question or something.

Thanks, Gotfaith & Mr. Answers, for having given me a better understanding of the industry and those who work in it. I, too, want to become a radiology tech.

I'm very interested in becoming an radiology technologist, and from what I've heard, nowadays, the equipment is so good and improved that techs recieve little or no radiation. There are actually little pins that techs can wear to track how much radiation they are exposed to, and like I said, with the new equipment, the pins have been very helpful in confirming the lack of exposure.

Yes. People that take X-rays will stand behind a leaded wall and look at the patient through a leaded pane of glass. This is to limit their exposure. In addition they will wear an X-ray badge and this is analyzed to make sure the person is not getting the limit of X-ray exposure. X-rays are an ionizing radiation meaning they can damage DNA.

The static discharge that we see daily is of very low voltage. Its only a light spark which is harmless to our body. Lightening is 100 times more powerful than this. The high voltage is capable of burning down things and kill people. But the static discharge also should not be neglected as it can cause damage to computers, laptop and other delicate components. It is better to use anti static products that will help you discharge it to the ground safely.
