Because of evolution, African American's hair has always been more course and short to help heat escape their bodies, since most African Americans originated from Africa where it tends to be very hot. Caucasion people have had more of a fur-like hair to keep the warmth in their body, since they originated from northern european countries which have a cold climate. Your right when u say it's rare to see an African American with long hair..usually I find out that they're hair extensions. Just remember to use deep conditioners on your hair to ensure that your hair stays strong to prevent breakage. Good Luck!

RE:
Hair why dosent it grow long for black people?
Why do white people's hair grow faster and grows down there backs and black people's hair dosen't grow past there shoulders. There are some black people that have hair down there backs but it is rare.

Tips
-if you can, wash hair every other day or every two days-it just depends how oily your hair gets.
-leave conditioner on for 10 minutes at least and don't put it on roots.
-drink lots of water and eat a lot of protein such as meat and peanut butter cause your hair is made from protein.
-always use a leave in conditioner for split ends.
-trim hair once a month since split ends stops hair growth.
-use heat protection every time.

It's all just a matter of personal preference. I have short hair and guys such as it. And i prefer a guy with short hair over a guy with long hair because long curly hair tends to make guys look as well girly.

Hair loss affects both men and women. Here are some natural remedies that can help boost hair growth: https://tinyurl.im/aH7Pt While genetics plays a role, there are other factors, including: hormonal imbalances, an underactive thyroid gland, nutrient deficiencies and insufficient scalp circulation.

This is not rare-it all depends on how you take care of your hair
Go to longblackhair.com they have tips for the products to use-it is a forum for real women. some track their growth and talk about what works and what doesn't. some have natural hair, some have perms, some keep their hair pressed.
you too can have long hair with a little work if you are ready for the challenge
It really is not that rare-most women i know with long hair actually wear more weave than those who don't to protect their own hair

As an african american we have a curl to our hair which makes the hair curl and by the time any length grows the hair breaks due to courseness and starts over again. Caucasian have straight hair which grows softer, less course. and therefore longer and does not break.
Also, we as african americans I believe use more harsh chemicals and heat on our hair leading up to breakage so the hair does not get the chance to grow w/o interference.
The only thing that can help us is proper hair care, and clipping ends in a timely manner.
