If you are the mother, then the number one downside is the toll it takes on your body during pregnancy. If you don't take good care of your body after you give birth, your body will also permanently be damaged from it, most common one is backaches that will never go away.
The number two downside will be financial. Having a child will increase your monthly expedintures exponentially. Medical insurance, education, daily necessities such as diapers, food, grooming needs among others are just some of the examples.
But aside from whatever downsides you might have, the blessing and joy of having a child far outweighs it all, and so it is definitely worth it to have children.

you have absolutely no freedom at all. the rest of your life revolves around this little human and you have the responsibility of making sure they grow up to be decent people. There is no more "you" time. Mommies and some daddies don't get breaks once a child is born. It is honestly a 18 hour day and sometimes 24 when they are sick. Just think jail and then think about your life now, you can then see the downside of having kids. Don't think it end at 18 either, cause then comes grandbabies and that is a whole nother world

If you want to give them a decent start in life then it could be very expensive because it takes time and money to raise children.
If you are very unlucky then you could end up with a child who is not in harmony with you.
For example, if you are an extroverted person, talkative, who likes the social scene and outings and have an introverted child who likes to stay at home, and live an inner life then you have a seriously huge problem on your hands if you cannot deal with that situation intelligently or sensitively.
Or the other way around which is even worse. Your child is extroverted and you are introverted. That means you like the quiet life and few friends and intimacy whereas your child likes to be part of every activity and bring home lots of friends. Aaargh.

There are some downsides but the positives DEFINATELY outweigh the negatives as far as I am concerned.
1) No time to yourself - even in the bathroom for 2 minutes you've got someone pounding on the door saying "Mom". LOL
2) More laundry to do
3) More meals to prepare
4) You become a taxi service until your child is old enough to drive themself
5) You have to "relive" your school days doing homework with your child LOL

It is difficult to have 'me time'. If you are used to having lots of time to yourself to accomplish your own goals and self-centered objectives...you are going to lose much of this. In many cases, this can be a positive adjustment. You will get used to it. I just realize now how much time I really had when I wasn't a parent.
Depending on how involved you are in parenting, it could impact your career. My wife and I both work and our kids are in daycare. My wife and I have comparable salaries so we take turns taking care of the kids if they are sick. This means my loyalties aren't 100% to the company. So, I'm probably taking 6-8 sick days a year to take care of the kids. My first daughter, it seemed like she was sick and at home at least once a month for the first 18 months of her life and then her immune system must have kicked in.
Expense - Kids are expensive. I heard a parent on the radio say that in the first year, it cost $15,000 for medical expense, toys, diapers, the crib, etc..etc.. He said he saved every receipt.
Is it worth it knowing these things. I can honestly say it is. Don't let these things get you down. Just have realistic expectations going into it. It's really cool being a parent!!

The downside to having kids,......well you will never have to be alone again, you will never have a dull moment again, you will never lack for hugs n kisses, atleast until they beccome teenagers then, they get past that and it is ok to hug on them again. Speaking of teens, when they hit that, then there is never any food left in the house and you can always find dirty socks anywhere you look! All the thrills and chills you could ever want!!

None. We had three, two boys and adopted a girl. They are all grown up and married and have children of their own. Sure, we had some problems when they were growing up, but that's the way it is. No body is prefect. We seemed to have work the problems out cause they are doing okay on their own. There's an old saying that your kids will be no worse that you were when you were one.

Other than that when they become adults, they make their own desicions, never blame yourself, my parents I can only say they are saints, my 41 year old brother is a heroine user, honestly speaking his choice in life have nothing to do with his upbringing.!
