i m an eastern girl and i m in love with a guy who has not finished his college study yet for his father's death and he still got 2 years before getting his college certificate. in the eastern societies when a girl whose father passed away her uncle take his place to decide for her in such matters. the guy i love is so kind and loves me so much. plus he has nothing but his studying to stop our engagement but my uncle says we should wait at least one year before getting engaged..And my mpm says we should listen to him and wait but i knew the guy for 2 years and we feel we need to move on not to wait more..any ideas ..thx

Well I'm a western girl and after the age of 18, we make our own decisions! My advice is to do what feels right to you.

Follow your elders advice. If the two of you love each other like you said, then there is no reason to rush to engagement. He will wait for you and you for him. Then the families will be pleased as well!

If this is your upbringing then you should listen to your uncle. Customs are around for a reason.
