yes - it always depends on the child. If the child learns from getting spanked and does not repeat the behavior they were getting punished for then it's a good form of punishment. Some children though think spanking is the easy way out bc they get spanked and then get to go back to doing whatever. And it only works up until a certain age (which also varies for every child) I have a one year old, and when he's a little older will probably do this whole spanking thing (it was done on me when i was a child and worked), but when he gets older (10+ probably) I will most likely punish him by taking away privledges

If the child is mature and there is another way to make them understand what you are forbidding, then try it first. Somethings, however, just require a spanking which should be no more than a single swat to the rear. It does get the message home but should not be overdone.
Both my kids agree that spanking is appropriate although as a last resort. They are now adults.

Yes, however, spanking should only be applied on certain situations (extreme negative behaviors). I also learned that a parent should never use any part of his body (like hands) for spanking as the child may correlate the hand to the action itself. Short of saying that spanking should only be used as a last resort to discipline a child.

As a parent it is your decision and it is totaly up to u. Another thing instead of spanking there is the talking stratigy. I would prefer the talking but if you talk to them they have to give u the answer. The spanking is only when a child has done something very bad. Think when you where a kid and then think what you liked and what you didnt and you should find your answer in there.

I've heard the saying that it's never right to hit a child. It's really hard to say if it's never appropriate under any circumstances, but in my opinion, spanking is only ok if the kid was really bad.

We have all heard of the saying spare the rod and spoil the child..Well, in today's context this may not be so right. Children nowadays, are more brighter and are open to discussion. Gone are the days when our parents used to lift the cane, for every slightest misbehaviour that spotted. Instead of hitting the child, sometimes, reasoning with the child would be better. If you have to teach the child the lesson of punishment, things like asking him or her to sit in a corner, being grounded, or maybe a slight hit on the hands, may be the thing that is needed. This would then move the child to think what went wrong, and when the situation cools down then the parents can discuss with the child what went wrong.

Never in anger. A few time with categorical imperatives under 3 or 4 like you will not wander into the street or stick things into the light plug. This is not to punish but to briefly give an exclamation point to some behavior that is dangerous for the child.

Everything is situational. Some parents can use spanking to appropritatly disiplene their child. In other cases, the child's own temperment isn't right for it.

I imagine it to be a useful tool, but shouldn't be used as a bullying tactic, ie "Your father is gonna beat you for that in 5 hours when he comes home!" I think it's only appropriate as an immediate negative consequence to a child's action, and should be followed by proper exploration and discussion of the problem.
