I have 4 dogs...yorkies!! My guy rolled his eyes but lets me do as I please. I take care of my dogs and he LOVES them to bits and pieces...I say...get one anyhow!! Try a small breed dog like a yorkie, less mess, no shedding, easy to take with you and the best breed in the world!!

I say get the dog and get rid of the boyfriend. Just kidding ;-)
My suggestion would be to take your boyfriend with you and introduce him to the dogs you work with and let him see that they are not dumb and don't all smell. Explain to him what it takes to take care of a dog and maybe somehow bring a dog home for a few days while both of you are going to be home and let him see how a real dog behaves and acts. That may break the ice a little. If not, you may have to exist with working with the dogs at work and being dogless at home.

he's just bein' stubborn. my cousin was the same way when his fiance wanted a puppy. he said 'no'. end of story. she went and got a book of dog breeds and said she would hold a grudge if he didn't at least browse through and look at the different breeds and keep an open mind and if he still didn't like them then they could get something else. he looked through it and found a jack russel terrier and said he MIGHT like that dog because they are great with their hygene. so she took him to a shop where they had jack russel pups and he pracitcally fell in love and got three and later on he decided he missed having a puppy and they got two more. that continued and they have 7 dogs.
good luck.

My husband was reluctant a litlle at first, but he fell in love with our English Bulldog. Take him to a reputable English Bulldog Breeder (do lots of research, as to not fall prey to a puppy mill!) as a "Surprise" and I bet you he will do the same! Some guys may not want a "girlie" dog, if there is such a thing, but Bullies are cute and strong looking at the same time. I warn you though, please do not get one if he really is adamant about it, it wouldn't be fair to the puppy.

Well you work with dogs if you can take him to work with you and show him that all dogs are not stupid and that not all dogs smell only the ones people dont take care of, and if he still refuses and you wnat a dog than keep trying.

That is the same thing as saying, "Oh, you will love a baby when we have one"........don't even think of going there with a dog....I am a kind person but NOT a dog lover and don't want one. If would be unforgiving if someone did that to me....

Just go get one and bring it home. My husband hates dogs, I went and got my mini schaneuzer (sorry about the spelling). It has taken awhile but he got used to and even lets her sleep on the bed when we nap.
He will get used to a dog ecspecially when he sees how much you love it.

Don't force anyone to purchase a animal. There is allot of responsibility in owning a dog. He doesn't want one. Besides, he isn't a dog person. Suggest another animal.

He wont like it and then you two will fight about how much he doesn't like the dog especially if it is a puppy. Listen to him if he says it and it will save you some trouble.

Get him one. Use Christmas, a birthday or an anniversary, better yet a wedding gift as an excuse.
