My son had a gland on one side of his neck that would swell, go down a little bit, and then swell again. My Pedi told me not to worry also. I just knew he was wrong though, so anytime I would see another Pedi in the practice, I would point it out for them to look over. Every time they would say it was totally normal and not to worry. By the time he was 3yrs old, it just stopped happening. I was definitely relieved even if it wasn't anything to begin with. I would keep an eye on it, but like your Dr said, it's probably nothing to worry about. I know, I know, that's a whole lot easier said then done. :)

Get some vitamin B into that boys diet which helps repel the bug biting (true fact). There are glands in your upper neck, under your arms and in the groin that can become enlarged any time you are sick. They are a sign doctors look for. If he has a lot of colds and flu's he is more prone to ear blockages. Try to let him ride the colds out with as little medication as you can so that he builds ammunity. If your doctor makes you feel silly you need to get a new doctor.

If it's what I am thinking of, my son has the same thing. It's called enlarged lymph nodes. My son goes to a ear, nose and throat Dr and he said that they are harmless. He's had it since he was at least 6 months old and still has it now, he's 3. His gets a little bigger when he's sick too. He's never had a problem with it and they said that he may or may not grow out of it as he grows. Hope this helps you some. Good luck!!!

its glands. The are behind and below the ears are full of lymph glands, the tonsils are the biggest and best known, but there are bunches. Lymph glands will swell with any challenge to the immune system. It could also be that your son's eustastion tubes are not draining extr fluid from his ears into the throat like they should be, this is very common is young children, but will fix itself as he grows and his head losses that baby shape. If he has lots of ear infections, then he could have a surgery to fix it, but it sounds like the DR isn't concerned, so I wouldn't worry about it.

My kids often get the same when they have colds. My Dr only prescribes cold remedy and hot compress. It works. Nothing to worry about.

They are common, swollen glands. I suggest you listen to your doctor, just because he doesn't have any children doesn't mean he doesn't know about children's health...he studided it for years in college and I'd be willing to bet he knows far more than you do about a child's health.

My daughter has a pea sized cyst on the back of her head. It gets to the size of a pea and then will leak and be the size of a pebble. She is 5 and it has never affected her.

Just because a doctor doesn't have children doesn't mean they don't know what they're talking about..they have a degree in medicine for a reason, ya know.

I'd say listen to your doctor. That's what those sound like anyway and if that's what the doctor said then listen to her.
