i dont' care how much money i have, i'm not buying my kid either one of those. not as a first car. nothing over 20,000 thousand, and they'd have to put some money in too. plus they'd have to have a job or be going into college.

I would want one that was safe and one that you could "afford" to drive. I would go with a Toyota because they are VERY dependable, hardly ever break down, and IF they do, they are usually easy/economical to fix.
They are safe, and they do not have high insurance premiums like some cars (even Hondas), and since your premiums are going to be high at first anyway, any savings will help you.
I would also go with a hybrid, so that you could manage the financial responsibilities of gas on your own and learn to contribute to a better environment.
So, a Toyota Camry, Corolla, or Prius.
Have fun. And I hope you know how lucky you are. Thank your parents by being a responsible driver!

I would never buy my child a brand new car! Also, if I was you I would check out insurance quotes since you will have to run full coverage (assuming you're not paying the car off in one payment but even if you do I'm sure you would want a new car covered 100%.)

IMO, an 18 y/o does not need a sports car! The insurance alone is outrageous. I would go for something that is more durable and inexpensive, like a mid-size SVU or a sedan.

I'd rather get one that was cheaper considering how many kids wreck their first car. Seeing one of those two get totaled out after I made payments on it for a year would just make me sick

I'm a parent and wouldn't even dream of buying a car like those for my child. Honda Civic, all the way.
