Hi, I'm a teen in the greater boston area, and I wanted to start, like a small biz in my home for dogs to come and play with other dogs, learn tricks, go for walks, etc, etc. My parents have said okay, but I don't know how to start.... =/

If you have any neighbors with dogs start with them first, start by walking them with another dog and see how well they do together.Start with just a couple and see how it goes with YOU. If you can handle them ok then you can add one at a time until you and the dogs all get along. Also, have your parents help you at first. Posting signs and walking with you and the dogs. I hope it works out for you. Its great that you want to start a buisness with dogs. It will bring more joy to you then you can imagine. GOOD LUCK!!!

Sorry, but no one is going to leave a teen incharge of a bunch of dogs. There is GREAT libality there. Fights, bites, property damage, losing a dog......the list goes on and on. At your age, you cannot be insured and bonded either.

Many dogs do not "play" together well. Especially in small spaces!

So you walk a dog and a neighbor gets bit by a dog you are walking. Who is responsible???? YOU....or more importantly..YOUR PARENTS!!!! They would be liable and the homeowners insurance would pay. They could lose the house if the damange was severe enough. And you would HAVE to notify the homeowners if you were having a business out of you house, and then the breeds of dogs could be in question. They do not want to cover certain breeds.

Here is my suggestion,,, there are several "All Breed Dog Clubs" in the Boston aria. Join one of them and become a Junior Handler. There will be people in the club that will take you under their wing and teach you how to handle a dog in the show ring, and allow you to use one of their finished dogs (Champion) in the Junior Handling Class. AKC has a fantastic Junior program, and it is a wonderful way to get an introduction to the dog world.
