It is called tinnitus.
Probably the most common cause for tinnitus is hearing loss. As we age, or because of trauma to the ear (through noise, drugs, or chemicals, for example), the portion of the ear that allows us to hear, the cochlea, becomes damaged.
Current theories suggest that because the cochlea is no longer sending the normal signals to the brain, the brain becomes confused and essentially develops its own noise to make up for the lack of normal sound signals. This then is interpreted as a sound, tinnitus.
This tinnitus can be made worse by anything that makes our hearing worse, such as ear infection or wax in the ear.
Tinnitus caused by ear trauma is usually noticed in both ears, because both ears are usually exposed to the same noise or drug.
Other causes of tinnitus include drugs such as aspirin (if overused), aminoglycoside antibiotics (a powerful form of infection-fighting drug), and is also commonly accompanied by tinnitus. This disease includes dizziness, tinnitus, and fullness in the ear or hearing loss that can last for hours, but then goes away. This disease is actually caused by a problem in the ear itself. The tinnitus is merely a symptom.
A rare cause of subjective tinnitus includes a certain type of known as an acoustic neuroma. The tumors grow on the nerve that supplies hearing and can cause tinnitus. This type of tinnitus is usually only noticed in 1 ear, though, unlike the more common sort caused by hearing loss, which usually is seen in both ears.

Every now and then, it's completely normal, but a constant ringing that won't go away needs to be checked on.
if it's bothering you THAT much, Call a doctor.
If it gets worse when you sit down or stand up, it's probably blood pressure.
Look at it this way, if it's ringing, you're not deaf!
lol
There are hearing aides (it it doesn't go away) that can fix that by producing a sound that cancels that ringing out.
Go get your hearing and blood pressure checked.
Good luck!

Ringing or buzzing in the ears is a condition called tinnitus and it's incurable. Tinnitus is a symptom of ear damage, either from an infection or from long-term exposure to loud noise. It's likely you have some form of hearing loss. Go to your doctor to get your ears tested.
