Okay maybe this is a stupid question, but I am curious. Do anorexic people get hungry and just brush off the pain and feel better about themselves, or does their body just not get hungry?

I would get really hungry but you get this sick pleasure from knowing you are having control over your body. Your body is screaming for food but your mind is laughing inside saying 'not until I say so.' It doesn't happen all the time, eventually you start to get use to the hunger pangs and you don't even realize when your body is hungry anymore.

When I was going through the first part of recovery I freaked out when my stomach growled! LOL It had been so long since I had known what real hunger felt like I had completely forgotten the sensations! Weird huh?

The odd thing is most anorexics constantly have food on their minds. Ironic. Ways to avoid eating, how powerful they feel because they are denying themselves the food....ect.

It's a little of both.
1. They find strength in their hunger. The hungrier they are, the better they feel about themselves. They feel in control of themselves, and they feel they have excellent willpower.
2. When you starve yourself your stomach does shrink, so when you do eat you get satisfied with less food...and you can program your mind to not be as hungry as often.

I get hungry. But, I would find ways to ignore the pangs. After a while, you do not want to eat. Or, when you try, you can feel ill.

i would get so hungry, but enjoy the feeling to an extent, since i knew my body was burning calories instead of taking them in.
