I looked in to changing my name . . . My name is legally spelled Sara, but I spell it Sera. I called my county clerk's office. The lady told me it would be concidered a name change, because of that, I would have to contact a lawyer and petition a court.

Seems like a lot of work (and money) to change one letter!

You need to go to the courts and have the name legally changed. Social security is the last step. Once the name is changed then the court will give you the documentation and you have GOT to send it into the social security office or it will cause big problems in the future. With young children, you sometimes have to wait awhile. I think once you go and apply for a name change, it is printed in the newspaper for a certain amount of time in the legal section and if no one objects than you can go through with the name change. There is a fee but it is not that much.

Contact your local Social Security Administration office (you can either find it on the internet or look in the blue pages in the back of your phone book). They can issue your child a new social security card in the new name, which you can then use to have your child's name changed in other places. Be prepared to pay a fee.

Just contact you local court (family services or Social Security Office) it costs about $250 to change, try to get child support-make him pay for it!

You fill out aform and pay a fee and usually there is a hearing wher eyou tell the judge why its better for the kid to have a different name. I have two kids, both have my last name as I wasn't married when I had them.

If he's on the delivery certificates he has to sign for it. i think of you may attempt and bypass to courtroom to have it replaced although each and every state is distinctive. Im unsure what yours does. right here in bama i won't be in a position to alter it without him signing off on it because of the fact i replaced into stupid sufficient to enable him on the delivery certificates. Its a seize 22
