Finding an animal's "human age" is easy. The formula is the same from animal to animal, even though the numbers are different. Parrot species age a lot like we do, with a few major differences.

Most parrot species reach reproductive age between a couple of months old (Lovebirds, Cockatiels) to seven years old (Macaws), so in those first months or years, they've aged as much as a 13 year-old human. Every year after that, most species experience one-year- to three-years-worth of physical aging for every calendar year they live. For instance, Lovebirds and Cockatiels can live a maximum of around 20 years, at which time, they would be elderly (like our 70s or 80s) :

2 mos. = 13 years + (20 yrs X 3yrs per yr) = 73 human years average maximum life span (20 calendar years)

In larger birds like Greys, the formula is more like:

2 yrs. = 13 years + (58 yrs X 1 yr per yr) = 71 human years average maximum life span (60 calendar years)

In macaws it gets a little strange, because they often outlive us! Their formula is more like:

7 yrs = 13 years + (80 yrs X .75 yrs per yr) = 73 human years average maximum life span (87 chronological years)

Using these formulas:

If your bird was small, it was around 67 human years old.
If your bird was medium sized, it was around 29 human years old.
If it was large, it was only 21 and a half years old.

Something tells me your bird lived to a ripe old age. I'm sorry about your loss. I hope you find it in your heart to love more birds.

This depends on the species of bird. The smaller birds, budgies, lovebirds, cockatiels, can live into their 20s or sometimes longer. Birds like conures, greys, amazons, etc can live longer, 50+ years. Many of the large breed birds can live past 70 (though the largest Macaw, the Hyacinth, only lives to be about 60).

I am sorry for your loss.

depending on the kind of bird it could be a short life. Most parakets live around 7 or 8 years. cockatiels about 12 parrots usually out live 3 or 4 owners. What ever age they are they are its not like with dogs. if it was 17 then it was 17
