I have 3rd degree burn scars on the upper part of my chest and down my left arm due to an incident when I was 15 months old. Because I have had them since a young age I have never really bother about the scars. When people stare I either just ignore them or tell them what happened. Just say something like 'Great scar isn't it. I have had it since I was little'. Thats what I did. They will soon stop staring.

I have tons of big pink scars. Some days I consider them testament to my strength, other days I hate them. If you've had them for a while, the only thing you can do is go to a dermatologist of plastic surgeon. If I'm feeling self-conscious, and people ask, I make stuff up. They don't have to know the truth, how tacky is it that they even asked in the first place! Say it was a sky-diving accident, motorcycle, whatever you feel like. It's none of their business.

Don't worry what other people think. It's just something that makes you different from everyone else which makes you special. There are more important things to worry about & they should have more respect than to stare & if they don't just blow them off. They're not the type who should be your friends anyway if they can't accept you for you-scar & all !!! :)

There are several products you can apply to the scar to make it fade and be less noticible. These tend to be pricey however. Though, if it really bothers you I suppose the price wouldn't hinder you. Here is an example:
