From the Social Security Administration for 2005:
Name Rank
Caitlin 193
Caitlyn 181
Kaelyn 517
Kailyn 508
Kaitlin 317
Kaitlyn 34
Kaitlynn 470
Katelin 979
Katelyn 58
Katelynn 296
Katlyn 614
Based on how many people on here keep saying they plan on naming their baby Kaitlyn, I wouldn't be suprised if for 2006 (when it come out next year) this name manages to jump up into the top ten. This is a VERY trendy name right now. And as you can tell by the different variations above she will have to spell her name her whole life. And trust me it gets very annoying. My name is Sherry and I have to spell it ALL the time. Not only that, even after I spell I receive stuff all the time that has my name spelled wrong. My husband's Grandma passed away and even his family managed to spell it wrong in the obit.
Alyssa is even more popular than Kaitlyn and for 2005 was ranked 16.
I like both of these name individually but not together. If you want a name she won't have to worry about spelling all the time how about:
Jane, Jean, Mary, Jill, Beth, Ellen, Joan, Wendy, Linda, Kim, Sue, Heather, Nicole, Jessica, Natalie, Abby, April, Carol, Brooke, Joyce, Paige, Amanda, Gina, Julie, Julia, Grace, Hope, Faith, etc...
To really find out the popularity of a name I would go to the Social Security Administration website (http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/ )and input the name, if there are a bunch of different ways to spell it (and they are popular enough) it will be listed off to the left with its rank.
But then again it's your baby, so name her what you want. In the end the name choice comes down to you and your husband.
Congratulations! and Good Luck!

She's gonna have at least 5 girls in every class with some version of Kaitlyn as their name. Since you mention difficulty spelling names, realize that you are picking a name she's guaranteed to have to spell every single time she tells someone her name. Why not choose Alyssa for the first name and pick a family name for the middle name.

There are at least six different ways to spell Caitlin/Katelyn/Kaitlyn, etc, at least in my daughter's school. How about something like Jill, or Janet, that she won't have to spell for people her whole life?

Kaitlyn is great and so is Alyssa, but together it is a bit of a mouthful. How about Kaitlyn Alyse (uh-leese)?
