SERIOUS ANSWER: Dear Carly, a good remedy would be a tea called Sleepytime from the brand Celestial Seasoning instead of taking sleeping pills. I have read that insomnia is caused by spirits that do not let the people sleep. To solve this, right before to sleep light some candles, put some music on and take a shower with sea salt. You can also do activities that relax at 6:00 in the afternoon (Yoga or acupuncture). Also you have to analyse what kinds of thoughts are you having before to sleep. Are you worried about work? Stressed? Get rid of these thoughts. Tomorrow will be another day- I hope this helps

There are several things you can do. I suffered from insomnia for a long time.
You should eat three hours before you want to go to bed, and don't eat after that.
Drink a mug of hot water before you go to bed.
Try some Hylands Calms Forte. They are NOT sleeping pills. They are over the counter pills that you can buy. they are natural herbs that aid in sleeping.
Another reason people have trouble sleeping is lack of exposure to sunlight. Weird, but true. You could try some 5 HTP pills. These are also natural pills that contain vitamin K. They work well too.
The two above solutions are great alternatives to sleeping pills since they don't make you groggy in the a.m.
Good luck.
I know you are hurting, and I hope this helps!

What are the reasons you cant sleep? Because I had this problem where I couldnt sleep because I couldnt "turn my brain off" i was constantly thinking about the days events, or stressing over the next days events. So I talked to my doctor and she put me on anti-anxiety pills, maybe you have an anxiety problem. If thats not the case try taking a warm bath before bed it is always relaxing and always helps me fall asleep.

Damn i am sure having the same problem as you. I have to be up at 6am and find myself still up at 4am. I have tried staying up all night 'not a good idea you will feel so so ruff'. I feel that drinking horlicks a few hours before i want to go to sleep is slowly working...since ive been doing this ive started to go to sleep at 2am so yea it is getting better. I dont want to resort to sleeping pills either!! You could also try spraying lavender on your pillow ive heard that helps and then the obvious 'reading' before you go to sleep but i find that doesnt help me atall. Another thing is wiggling your toes in bed thats been known to help....havent personally tried it though.
Hope it helps....and good luck i know how hard it is to do!!

I've continually had disorders slumbering. I'll opt for two weeks with one million-two hours max a night time, earlier than it ultimately catches up on me, after which I'll have a couple of well nights, then again to no sleep once more. I have no idea why-had been love it for so long as I can don't forget. But so much of my first-class recommendations occur while I'm looking to sleep. My mum has the equal obstacle

What are you worried about? If you can figure this out and resolve it that will take care of the problem. In the meantime try the following (I have put them in the order they work best for me)
1)sleepy-time tea- you can add a little honey if you need it sweetened. A warm cup just before bed will help you relax.
2)Go to bed at the same time each nite and lie in bed (even if you don't feel sleepy) with your eyes shut. It may take as much as a week, but you will begin to be sleepy at that time, and even if you don't sleep your body rests.
3)soothing musak...not music you love to listen to but elevator musak... or a recording of waves with light music behind it.
Use 1 or more in combination and you should begin to get more rest- it works for me.

Maintain a constant sleep schedule. Before sleeping, don't eat too much or have too much caffeine. Exercise helps you fall asleep as well. Also, make sure that you have a mattress that you can sleep on comfortably. Also, don't watch too much TV before you go to sleep.
If that doesn't work, is there anything bugging you? Clear your mind of all bad thoughts when you're going to sleep.
Good luck, and see the site in my sources list for more information.

I can only answer this question with questions. Are you very stressed during the day? Do you dislike your job or are there aspects of your life in general that may keep you awake at night? When I was young, I remember getting up early like you and the thought of that alone would often keep me awake late at night. Smoking had a similiar effect until I quit.

I would check your caffeine intake. College makes you stay up late cramming, and sometimes you need a kick. Soda or coffee can have effects that last for several hours after last intake. Try not drinking caffeine after 5pm.
