i am currently eating around 2000 calories a day, maybe less. and i am 175 5'11''. i am 16 yrs old. i want to get a six pack. over the past 6 months i have lost 40 pounds but have hit a plateu at 175. it says that to maintain my current weight i should eat about 2700 calories but i am eating way less, and exercising. Should i increase my calorie intake to lose the weight. im not sure if im eating too few calories. please someone give me some valuable input.

If you want a six pack, you should be exercising your gut more...not eating less.

If you really want to do things that will help you burn the "fat" and maintain the muscle AND get that six-pack, look into swimming laps at a local pool (YMCA). Swimming is, I believe, the only excercise that works EVERY muscle in your body. It's an excellent cardio workout also. Don't knock it till you try it. Plus, get yourself on some sort boxer training regiment. Boxer's do some hella excercises for their midsections. They have to have solid cores as do all athletes. If your 16 years old the last thing you should be worried about is calorie intake. Don't get me wrong, watch WHAT you eat, but don't worry about calories if you're eating healthy foods. Your 16 years old, your metabolism is probably going at top-speed right now. Don't sweat too much of that crap. It's not worth it. Eat healthy, excercise regularly and everything will be fine. If you want that six-pack work those abs a little more but be sure to allow your body to rest and recuperate the right way too. Good Luck and Stay Healthy!.........

Make sure to eat early in the day. If you don't eat enough for an extended period of time, your body will stop burning calories as quickly. There was actually an interesting Dateline-type show on a while back that compared people trying different diets. There was one lady who chose running to lose weight and for the first few months, she was losing barely anything despite the fact that she was running miles every day. She was told it was probably because she wasn't eating *enough* and when she started having a more balanced diet, her body was burning calories much, much quicker. She went on to win the little contest.

Another option is to forgo trying to lose wieght for a few months and focus on building muscles. To do that, you'll need a balanced diet. Once you gain some real muscle mass, it becomes easier to burn calories since muscles burn calories far quicker than fat (yes, fat burns calories).

All that said, you are anything but overweight. When losing weight, people often hit those blocks where losing weight goes from quick and easy to very, very, very hard. Furthermore, some body types are really, really hard to get 6-packs no matter how hard you try.

Stay with your 2000 calorie a day diet, but change the way you take in those calories. Take more calories from protein and less from carbs and fats. Break the calories into 6 small meals a day and don't eat anything for 3 hours before you go to bed. The next day do 45 minutes of cardio at your tartget heart rate. You will burn more fat on an empty stomach in the morning.

Muscle weighs more than fat. Are you a large framed/boned person? I am (5'11 and 180#, my smallest was 159#) and it is VERY hard to expect your body to look small, when it is framed out to be larger. I felt great at 159 but a drastic job change and age will do that to you! I did about 1000 calories a day and strenous job work out and the weight just fell off and I was noticeably hot
I hope you can figure it out...plateau's are hard but I recommend less calories and keep up the work out! Good Luck. PS don't forget to Flinstone up!

Try doing more cardio when you first wake up in the morning. When you first wake up, you have no food in your stomach and if you walk a mile on a treadmill, you are burning stored fat calories. If you do cardio during the day or after a meal, you are only burning off what you ate for the day. I am a body builder so I usually try to gain mass but sometimes I need the cardio to keep me in check. Hope this helps :)

I think you are not eating enough. so bulk up on the good kinds of calories and stick to your exercising but then again don't over do it. remember you may never get a six pack but you should be happy with yourself for who you are not what you look like on the outside. :)

That is a perfectly healthy weight for your height. Continue to eat a healthy diet and focus on abdominal exercises when you workout. Also watch your sugar intake: Sweets, white breads, white rice, white pasta, sodas, and potatoes. Substitute whole wheat alternatives, %100 fruit juices/water, or eliminate them from your diet all together.

You say you're exercising, are you lifting weights, b/c that might increase you're metabolism enough to lose some more weight. You might try changing your workout your body may have adapted to your current one.

I would suggest changing your exercising routine. Either try increasing exercise or changing the type of exercise you do.
