You'd think that people would buy it as a healthier alternative to ground beef. Along those lines, ground turkey is very popular, but it doesn't seem like ground chicken was had the same results.

Any ideas?

I think the biggest reason turkey is able to parade as a beef replacement is because it has a gamey taste that at least echoes the flavor of beef, whereas chicken is really pretty flavorless. Also, turkey can have a fattier, meater consistency, chicken is naturally pretty dry comparatively and so needs alot more doctoring than turkey.

However, I agree that ground chicken should be more popular! I would talk to the manager of your local butcher or grocery store and let them know, they might actually listen!

Oh I know! I use to buy it at Pavilions in Arcadia and it was awesome. We get ground turkey - don't do red meat - and it's good, but the ground chicken was far superior.

Talk to your meat guy at the store you frequent most. They will help you, at least mine always did? Hope this helps.

I guess it all depends on what area you live in, I just saw an answer above me and I can't believe how the ground chicken was "deeply discounted" and soggy, wow!!

When we bought ground chicken - quite often - not only was it never soggy, it always tasted wonderful along with being pretty expensive to boot!

I've tried ground chicken. It's so soggy that it's impossible to make anything patty-like with it (burger, meat loaf, etc) and it just doesn't seem to cook up well for spaghetti sauce or chili either.

I've used ground turkey successfully in (slightly soggy) burgers. If you add Wostershire sauce to spaghetti or chili made with ground turkey, you don't even know it's not beef.

But ground chicken is always on deep-discount sale at the supermarket. I don't know why they even bother to carry it.

Ground beef is probably the most popular, but i find that using Italian sausage with a good spaghetti sauce makes for a more flavorful dish. My mother has even used both before.

Possibly higher fat content. And the scare with the bird flu, cause chickens are what you keep seeing pictures of on t.v. getting slaughtered, connected with that.

I like ground turkey, cause it takes on the other flavors, spices, onions, in a meatloaf.

While I can't really answer, I use my mixer with the grinder attachment to grind my own chicken. It's easier than hoping it will be in the supermarket.
