Christianity was first begun through Jesus Christ. Christians believe that God sent Jesus to the world as the Savior. Christianity teaches humanity can achieve salvation through Jesus. Christians are under the same umbrella, with variations in their particular church doctrine. In other words, they generally all believe the same thing, Jesus Christ is their Savior. Christianity has splintered into several different bodies to form new churches back in the 1500's. These include the Baptist, Congregationalist, Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian and Roman Catholic as well as Eastern Orthodox, similar to the Catholic church.
In the 1900's there began a movement called the ecumenical movement which seeks to unify Christians worldwide. In today's churches, where ever you attend, you see a blend of this ecumenical movement as a positive step of spiritual cooperation and renewal of religions.
Thus, is there one true religion? I would have to say "no", only because of the comments I just made. What do I personally believe in, a benevolent, loving, all empowering God.

The so called "christian" religions, with the exception of a few all have pretty much the same basic beliefs. They differ mainly on debatable issues- how to apply certain scriptures and worship service traditions and practices. They pretty much all believe that faith in Jesus is the only way to heaven, though some still get stuck in the works department. They all celebrate the same holidays and feasts (ironically most of which are pagan) They all err in the same areas regarding Torah and the OT.
I am do not really associate with any religion, I am a Messianic believer. I believe that the Torah and OT are still very much important and a strong part of Christianity, I believe that the only way to heaven is through Jesus and that it does not matter what yoou label yourself or what someone else labels oyu, only God knows oyur heart and oyur relationship with Him and your acceptance is going to be about that and not your religion

Great question. It is easy to get overwhelmed with doctrines and religions. I am a bible believer. Jesus was a Jew. Remember a Jew is a race not a religion. Judaism is the religion. All those that follow Jesus are Christian. I think it is important to be a Christian. Get in a Bible based church regardless of what the sign says and read the Bible everyday. Jesus said the only way to the Father is through Him. You must turn from your sins and we all sin. Remember Jesus died so that we might be forgiven. None of us are good in the eyes of God (our Judge), we have to have Him. IM me if you want any info from me. I always get a look from people when they ask me what I am and I say Christian and not Baptist or some Doctrine. I do attend church and am an elder there but don't get hung up on doctrine. God bless you.

There are as you know, many denominations. Needless to say, some are better then others and some are just plan dangerous cults.
You are also right that there is only one way to get to heaven...through Jesus Christ but several of these denominations teach that. If any of them teaches another way...run from it. Run from it also if they tell you that you have to be a member of that group to be saved.
Why are there different denominations? Paul told us in Romans chapter 14 that there are areas that are open for debate...that it does not really matter if one believes one way and another a different way.
What matters most is what we believe will give us eternal life...check the link below for information on that.

There is only one way to heaven and that is believing the Bible and not taking anything out the re is only one true way you can call yourself anything you want but if you don't have the WHOLE word of God in your heart then you are not going to heaven.;The last chapter of Revelation says that if any man should take away from this book then his name should be taking out of the Lambs book of life. So the old testament was fulfilled through the new testament and we need to obey everything that is in the word of God.

Every denomination has different beliefs, but they are all bible based. That means that you can choose a church that allows you to do whatever you want, and still feel like you can judge others for the things they do that you don't agree with. And no matter how you cut it, you can still call yourself christian when people ask. Good deal, huh? Aren't you glad that god made it possible for all people to be bigots in their own way?

The only real true religion is a personal spiritual relationship with God and Jesus. being open to all the ways of communication with our Lord. When you feel you master that .... you will know that you don't need to be in a religion.

I'll tell you what I know from years of study:
Religion are of man. Catholicism is rooted in regulations, laws, and hoops one must jump through.
The only true "religion" that pleases God is a personal relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. One must trust in the Bible and believe it to be God's Holy Word.

Catholics believe that you have to follow much stricter rules. Plus they believe in Purgatory, which is where people go that are only partially evil, before they get into Heaven. Once you've paid for your sins in Purgatory, you get to go to Heaven.
The Protestants mostly believe all the same, without Purgatory, except that they all say if you do not belong to their church, you are wrong.
Except Episcopalians. They are like Catholics except not. That one is hard to explain.
I believe that if we all live our lives to the best of our ability with what we truly believe is right, God will not throw us all into Hell. But I would not be accepted at any one church because of that.

I don't know the doctrines of the Assemblies of God churches, or the Lutherans or the Baptists. Catholics, of course, have alot of man made doctrine that is not biblical; that much I do know.
There is one way to heaven, that is so...belief in Christ as savior. I go to a non-denominational church; we just teach the bible.
