I am starting to hunt and i am right handed but i can't close my left eye alone to aim the shotgun. I can close my right eye with my left eye open, but not the left eye. Since i am right handed i have to close my left eye. Do you have any suggestions on how to train my eyes!!!???

"BOTH EYES OPEN, put the object in the center of the triangle," Do what? First off you should be shooting with both eyes open it is the proper way. To find out which eye is dominate here is what you do hold up a thumb at arms length with both eyes open cover an object with your thumb now cover your right eye is you thumb still covering it? Uncover your right eye and cover your left eye is your thumb covering it? If you thumb was still covering it when your left eye was uncovered then you are left eye dominate, if your thumb was still covering it when your right eye was uncovered then you are right eye dominate. But what ever you do learn to shoot with both eyes open.

Another vote for both eyes open. I used to shoot with my left eye closed, but I found that my left eye would be blury for a while after that, so I worked on both eyes open and now that's all I ever do. If you are using your dominant eye for sighting then you probably won't have much trouble ignoring the other image.

I have the same problem and I'm a professional trap shooter so trust me I know your frustration. Chances are you're either cross dominant meaning that you're right handed with left eye dominance or you're eyes are co-dominant which is my problem. Even though some people say it's better to leave both eyes open when you shoot but trust me if you have either of the two problems listed up above that's just going to cause you more problems. So I would recommend putting a patch over your left eye or you can even put a peice of scotch tape on your glasses over your left eye. Doing this will cause your right eye to just start taking over. The last thing you could try would be trying to shoot left handed instead of right handed. This would be as a last resort. Good luck and happy hunting!

Use your fingers to keep one eye closed while you try to open them both. It takes a bit of practice.

While you shoot tape your eye closed. Don't rip your eye out taking it off. This should train your eye to close eventually.

I have just heard of this from a friend. You use an eye patch. You'll want to try it quite a bit on a shooting range b/4 you go hunting.

When shotgunning, you should be using both eyes since you really don't "aim" with a shotgun. Shooting with a shotgun is more reflex than anything else, it's a feel thing. I'm naturally left handed, left eye dominant yet I shoot right handed, go figure but I don't miss very often what I'm shooting at. I shoot trap, sporting clays and 5-stand and I do very well at them. I also hunt pheasant, grouse, dove, partridge, duck and goose with my shotgun and do very well at those also. Trying to aim a shotgun like you would a rifle just doesn't work that way unless you've scoped your shotgun and are using it for big game. That's a different story altogether.

Learn to shoot with both eyes open.
It took me a little time to get used to, but I'm
more accurate, and more consistent with my shots.
Learn this, if you want to be a better shot.
