How about not trying to go for the typical "emo" hairstyle? Instead, go for something unique that no one has! But still go for something edgy or razorcut. Hey, its way better!
Also restrain from label yourself, you're better then that.

start out by dying your hair black.
get bangs.
spike the banks downward so they fall in your eyes a little.
get the rest of your hair layered and wear it with gel, so it is shag.
this is a very emo style.
