the obvious question would be what the heck are you doing there if youre an atheist ? You made a left when you should have taken a right ? Why should they not sing simply because you are there ? Feel free to get up and leave.

Sounds like your question is just to start a fight. There are better more constructive things to do here on YA than ask grinchy questions.

If you're at a religious school, then you probably would have to either play along, ask for permission to leave, or go to a public/secular school. If it's a public school already, they aren't legally allowed to sing religious music. If it's Christmas music, you're on shakey ground, since not many people take it that way to begin with. At least I don't.

If you go to a public school, you shouldn't have to sing hymns in assemblies.
If you go to a Christian school, get out if you don't want to sing hymns because it's a private school and they don't have to respect others' beliefs.
It's all about which type of school you go to.

nicely in case you prefer to get technical all atheists are particularly a lot agnostics too. No atheist can ever teach that there is not any god. We basically think of that it is so inconceivable that the agnostic nomenclature could be disingenuous.

You don't HAVE to do anything young lady except pay taxes and die..

IF I were you, tho, I would give a LOT of thought about saying that "I am an atheist". That is a VERY dangerous path you are stumbling along.

Remember: It is best to believe and be right than to NOT believe and be wrong!!! Think about that, please.

Good luck. Pops

You have the choice not to sing or do anything you don't want to do. It's in the first amendment, along with freedom of speech, etc.

I had no problem with it at school, interesting anthropological study. I don't know what country you are in but if you are so against it usually your parents can get you pulled out of it.

because you value diversity and really care about people on the planet, even if they have ideas, cultures, languages, or values systems different from yours...

get out of your box and realize the world has lots of various ideas and beliefs and maybe we can learn from each other. if not else, maybe we can learn tolerance.

If you're not in a church assembly, then you can show your respect by not singing. If you are in church, the first question would be why you are there.
