Put them in the garbage and cover tightly.

Buy good placemats at Linen and Things, Bed Bath and Beyond, or even Walmart. The souvenir placemats will cost more than throwing them out, by ruining other surfaces and the sleeves of blouses and shirts.

Since they're made of straw, other than spraying them with some sort of sealer, and turning them hard, there's not much you can do about the dye bleeding. I once had a straw purse that did the same thing. I ended up throwing it away. I suggest you do the same. Sorry.

I assume they are cloth material.. I would hand wash them this time with water and a mixture of white vinegar .. about a cup or two to a gallon of water is OK.. soak them well in that and then dry them...ThAT should work

Hair spray, let it dry then spray again do about 4 coats to make sure. you will have to do it atleast once every year.
