A more correct way would be "because they don't want to be disturbed". (However, as a side note, most of the people I know use "do not" instead of "don't".)

Some extra corrections on what you've written:
"Please, look at this answer and correct it for me:" and "Why have they rented a cottage in the mountains?"

Why have they rented a cottage in the mountains?
Because they don't want to be disturbed.

Using the present perfect is OK. This is an action which started in the past but is still true in the present.
Traditionally, in written English, short forms were frowned on, however, English is a living language and the short form 'don't' is now acceptable.

the corrected version should read.......... They rented a cottage in the mountains, because they did not want to be disturbed.

Because they are a gang of international gold smugglers who need a secret headquarters where the police have no chance of finding them

"Because they don't want to be disturbed".

This is in the passive mood. It is very easy in English because the participle doesn't change.

I guess an American would use the past simple "Why did they rent....?" and likewise the answer would be in same tense "Because they didn't want.....
