I'm 15 years old and a freshman at a small school in southeastern Kentucky. Our season and playoffs recently just came to an end. Next year, I will taking over the starting quarterback position. I am looking to put on some weight by the beginning of next season. At least 20 lbs. But, I want it in muscle mass, not fat. Which supplement would be best for what I am looking for?

I played football when I was a freshman in high school. My goal then was to gain a lot of weight so I could be a better guard on offense. I could not gain the weight then even though I tried weights and increased calories. I'm 65 years old today. I would give anything to be able to lose weight. Forget about taking supplements. There is no easy way. Off-season will require you to work very hard to gain muscle mass of twenty pounds. Anything you take for a shortcut will eventually end up hurting you.

First of all, it's really hard to gain just muscle, it can be done but it will take a long time. The best bet is to bulk up by upping your calorie intake, and I'm talking about 3500-4500 a day. Just try to keep it as clean and healthy as possible to minimize fat gain. Then just hit the gym hard with heavy load and high intensity and stick to big lifts (presses, deads, squats, pullups, O-lifts). Once you gain the weight and muscle, start cutting on cals and start doing cardio to cut the body fat down. Good luck.

You need to face one fact: Putting on 20 pounds of muscle in a year is next to impossible with out steroids. You need to eat, eat and eat some more. Get yourself on a serious strength training program. Concentrate on complex movement such as squats, dead lifts, power cleans, push press, etc. A good CEE creatine and protein powder will boost your gains. Take some glutamine to help with the recovery.

You want to start eating more protein - whether its in lean protein form or a protein shake. You need to eat about 5-6 times a day - not big huge meals, but protein and veggie rich meals. You need to do enough cardio to work your heart, but not enough to lean out. You also need to do strength training. If you eat a lot of protein, and strength train every day, you should gain what you need too. Oh, and do whey shakes, not soy :)
