Why do people color their hair and what is the purpose?

I color my hair to hide the gray. Also I like the highlights and the shine I get. Fine hair will appear thicker because you are coating the hair shaft. Just remember never lighten or darken your hair more than 2 shades or it will look unnatural

Well, usually at first to alleviate boredom from the same old thing, I think! But if you are going darker it has the added benefit of acting as a protective layer on your hair while making it shinier, a little thicker and healthier looking. It also helps to improve your self perception and self esteem if you like what you see in the mirror. For people who cover gray I think it is especially great because it helps them to look as young as they still feel inside.

To hide grey, add shine, reduce the appearance of damage, brighten your skin and whole 'look'. My natural color is a mousy brown and I color to a light medium brown. It comes out with nice auburn highlights in the sun.
