Any martial art keeps you in good shape as long as you practice and work hard at it. But i take American karate and we do a lot of push ups, sit ups, lunges, and a lot of jumping jacks and running.
I'm half way to black belt and at my level we do 35 push ups, 35 sit ups, 35 lunges, 40 jumping jacks in all four directions (north south east and west) and every Saturday a 2 mile run which must be completed under 18 minutes.

If you work hard at the Martial Art you do, you will sweat and loose weight. It is a matter of devotion. I'm not saying this is the best Martial to loose weight, but Tae Kwon Do helped me loose weight. Some Martial Arts schools even have weight loos programs! Just choose a Martial Art that you think you like and go for it. Good Luck!

There really isn't an answer to this question. Any martial art can keep you in top shape if practiced regularly. If I had to provide an answer, though, there's a Brazilian martial art that is disguised as a very acrobatic dance. It's called Capoeira.
Edit: you guys are forgetting endurance...

It is not about how many push up and sit up and so on that you do, this is called personal training. I would have to say that Capoeira is the most active martial art as it combine dancing as well as tons of accrobatic movements. Capoerist are constantly in movement revolving left and righ back and forth as most other martial art are based on a back and forth attack defense pattern. This style of martial art is not for fighters' need but it ll keep anyone top shape.

Muay Thai will get you into shape fast.. But that's only if you are dedicated enough to train a minimum of 4 times a week.. I have been doing it now for 6 weeks and and already noticing my body changing, another girl in my class has been training 5 months and lost 10 kilo's..(she trains hard though) we started on 80 push-up's and 80 sit ups, 10 mins skipping (in 2 min batches throughout class)... I have never sweat so much in my life till I started training there... But I feel great after a session!

I don't know, it depends on what you want to lose in weight. I've lost a lot of fat and gained even more muscle, which because of the muscle I weigh 140 lbs. But, I take Taekwondo. It doesn't really matter which one you take, just do your best and put 100% effort into the workouts and stretches. If you don't then you're not going to get a workout at all.

I think American karate is a bunch of bull. You should learn the REAL thing. Well, I take Tang Soo Do and I have to do 60 sit ups with the r leg, then l leg, then both, then regular, I have to do 30 pushups and do hand stands with our legs in splits in the air for 10 minutes.
