If I suspect someone has been drinking then I'll give them a breathalyzer test in the office. More often than not...if someone has been drinking or doing drugs they're not going to be reporting to me that day anyway.

You can usually smell the alcohol on the person. If their speech is slurred, and they basically look drunk then I'll give them a breathalyzer, but its not really an issue unless they have an order to totally abstain from alcohol. You could use a urinalysis to test for alcohol, but a breathalyzer is much easier.

They smell your breath and clothes - look at your eyes - listen
to your speech. Then, if they suspect something, you take a
pee test. Or they can order a random pee test to see if it comes
out positive. Or they can do the breathalyzer test if they have
one in the office. Good rule of thumb - don't drink 48 hours before
going in and drink lots of water to pee a lot.

Hey Dude, your "bread ain't quite done", is it? If someone has an odor of alcohol about their person, it is obvious that they have consumed some quantity of alcohol within a recent time frame. As to urine testing. He would not necessarily need a sample of your urine to make this determination. All he would have to do is have you take a breathalyzer test to determine your BAC (blood alcohol content).

The use the same method as any other police officer. The main difference is they don't need to show probable cause. The fact that you are on probation IS probable cause.
