Anyone who can help me with this problem! My cat just insisted on peeing on the sofa. It is driving my husband and me insane.
I know that my cat will probably repeat this over and over again.

I realize that you can NEVER get rid of the smell...but...is there any product out there that can help eliminate the smell as best as possible?? Help! We can take it anymore. By the way, we DON'T want to get rid of the cat!

Thanks!

First off, keep the cat away from the sofa. Secondly, sprinkle a lot of baking soda over the spot, and leave it for two to three days, then vacuum it up really well. Thrid, True Value Hardware has something called Pet Oder Control, used by many kennels to remove pet oders. It is an enzime formula, so there won't be any problem with harsh chemicals. Apply it as per instructions, several times, then when dry, use the baking soda one last time, and vacuum it up. If this doesn't work, at that point I would have the sofa professionally cleaned. I assume the sofa is either an heirloom, or somewhat valuable, and you would want to keep it. The whole cleaning process shouldn't cost a whole lot. I have many cats myself, and have used this technique before with great success. I hope this helps.

There is a product called "Urine Gone" (you can order it online at http://www.urinegone.com) that is the best product I've ever used for pet smells and stains. It's a little expensive but it's worth it! The best plan of action would be using a steam cleaner first with a really good cleaner or even some of the urine gone in the steamer. Then once it's dry, use the Urine Gone as upkeep. This will get rid of the smell and may even help fix the problem of the cat peeing on the couch. A lot of pets will urinate on rugs and furniture that have that smell. (my dogs would always pee on the same spot on the carpet until I steam cleaned it). Plus always make sure the litter box is clean. Good luck and I hope this helps!

I would recommend that you purchase Natures Miracle from your local pet store, saturate the spot and let it dry on its own. You will notice that the smell will be strong and then you will not smell it again, this will happen for a short time. The reason for this is the product works enzymatically so when you smell odor, the product is working the way it should be. You may have to use the product more than one time, but it really does do the trick.

Note: If your cat is urinating on the sofa, he may be trying to tell you that he is not feeling well, you may want to get him checked out medically to be sure all is okay. You may also want to change his cat pan more often as well.

Pet stores have cat and dog spray repellent. I bought some once and it worked pretty good.

Clean up the sofa, spray it with something like Oust or Odor Out (cheaper), then put the cat repellent on it. I keep blankets on my sofas so they don't get dusty and dirty when it's just us. I take the blankets off if we are having company.

If it's a unneutered male, have it neutered. I have 1 neutered male that does not spray and 1 that still does. If it's a female, then she thinks she is dominant over you and will probably repeat the behavior.

Make sure there are enough clean litter boxes available. Since I have 5 cats that come indoors, I have 3 litter boxes at various locations. 2 of my cats don't come in at all because they have obnoxious toilet habits.

I had this problem for years (I have 5 cats) and the best thing I've found is Nature's Miracle -Just For Cats. It should work fine and keep the cat from doing it again unless...

My problem was that my female cats were "spraying" rather than peeing. It actually smells worse than cat pee. They destroyed a lot of my stuff. If I left a box of cereal on the counter, one of them would run over and spray it. Experts told me there was nothing I could do because it was a territorial thing. I used the Nature's Miracle stuff and even though it removed the smell, they would eventually spray the area again just for the hell of it. I took them to the vet and had them spayed and the problem was resolved.

Natures Miracle does work well. Also, try going to a janitorial supply company. They have some great products that work great at removing smells. Just tell them what you need and what you're desmelling! You may have to get a injector (like for a turkey) and inject the odor remover into the cushion to get it down in the center of the foam or material inside of the couch. Ask at the janitorial store. I had a cat that was sick and peed on my carpet and I used the injector method to get into the backing, padding and to the floor and it took care of the problem.

This is CHEAP and really works. Of course it will depend upon how soaked your cat got your couch. Plain old rubbing alcohol. What I would do is pour it straight on the site and then blot up with paper towels. You may want to completely soak the spot on the couch, put several layers of paper towels, and the phone book or something heavy and leave it on there for 20 minutes. Keep repeating until the stain/smell is gone.

Natures miracle works well . You can buy it at pet stores. You must douse it on and let it dry naturally. Get a black light and see every spot of urine. Urine is protein and you've got to get every drop. Walmart has a thing called kids and pets urine away. It works OK. You may have to repeat the process a couple of times. You can also buy it on the Internet
