Many people wake up at about 3 AM almost every day (myself included for years and years). This has to do with circadian rhythms and sleep cycles. Folks really aren't supposed to sleep through the whole night. They began to get into the habit during the Industrial Revolution and the invention of electricity. People slept for a few hours, woke for an while and then went back to bed. As for talking to spirits in the middle of the night. Yes. Perhaps. Perhaps you are having waking dreams as well.
