I have been watching the Fellowship of the ring and my cat who was initially curled up on the sofa, woke up as soon as it started and just sat looking at the screen and started howling. This film obviously spooked him. You probably think this is aload of porkies, but it is absolutely true.

My cat Sam is 17 years old and is usually not very vocal , however, tonight he changed all that by his howling..

Have you a pet that gets spooked by something on the telly?

It's the name. Samwise Gangee gets some serious hard times in Rings. Your cat is feeling Sam's pain.

But... I have to say that when I read Fellowship as a kid I was so scared I could have drowned in my own, er... whatever.

Especially Weathertop. That bit is TERRIFYING

Anyway, I guess some of the emotion portrayed in the films is actually kinda real, because the story is so vivid, so living, and so complex that it becomes real as you read it. And the films are very good renditions of that. Perhaps your cat is picking up that stuff.

I was watching a wildlife program about foxes and my dog got interested. He looked around the back of the telly and was a bit puzzled that there was no' dog' there.
Later they put a camera down a set and you could see the tunnel and daylight; when the fox appeared and ran down the tunnel my dog jumped away from the tv and looked very confused when it didn't step into the room - he wasn't the brightest dog I ever owned.

Not spooked, but when nature shows with birds singing and little animals running around come on, my old cat (13) watches TV and chatters back at them and swipes at the screen.

Funny,eh?

My cats all watch nature progs on TV.

We got one of our cats from the RSPCA and just after we got her there was a (Human) baby crying on the TV. She immediately jumped up and started scratching at the TV to try to get inside. We think that she must have come from a house that had a baby.

My Siamese cat Fancy goes nuts when birds are singing on TV. My tortoiseshell cat Shadow sits close to the bird cage for hours and watches Oliver and Sweetie Bird but ignores what's on TV.

My cat has listened to Shirley Bassey on the stereo so many times. She now watches the dvd's, I think it's to do with Shirleys arms moving, rather than the music.

No. But I have had cats who would watch the television or listen to the radio with me.

Sam sounds like a very special feline!

My cat Skittels watches every episode of Meerkat Manor. As soon as it starts she jumps up on the table by the t.v. and stares at it. VERY FUNNY!!! My dog however gets scared when I watch NASCAR and hides behind my chair.

My cat used to hate Carol Vordaman, and would attack the screen when she was on.

My cat when I lived with my parents used to love watching snooker, and would pat the balls.
