The Catholic church had killed a great many people through toirture in the past because they didn't or wouldn't convert. I don't think that the Catholic church was *always* against the death penalty.

look this should only be taken as an opinion of some Catholics in the Vatican,it is not a dogmatic statement, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Since when has the Catholics been anti-death penalty? I'm assuming you're an American. Have a look around. Whenever someone is executed in the States, you'll always find anti-death penalty protesters sitting vigil. And who will you find amongst them? Catholics, Catholic nuns, and Catholics priests.

The Catholic Church has ALWAYS been against capital punishment.

"Unfortunately, Iraq is one of the few countries that have not yet made the civilised choice of abolishing the death penalty," (quote from your article). What does that say about the USA?
