World's Easiest Dinner

For each serving, you'll need a boneless chicken breast, a peeled and quartered potato, a peeled and thinly sliced carrot, a few broccoli spears, and a few slices of red or green pepper if you like it.

Take a large square of aluminum foil and fold up the edges to make a packet. Place the chicken in the center and season it with whatever you're hungry for. (Lemon pepper, barbecue sauce, Montreal seasoning, or whatever.)

Place the veggies around the chicken and season with salt, pepper, and a few dabs of margarine. Seal the foil to form a tight package, and bake at 350 degrees until the chicken is done and the veggies are soft -- usually about 25 to 30 minutes.

Serve with bread sticks and a deli salad of your choice. The recipe is easy, very nearly foolproof, and delicious!

If you want to learn a recipe from "scratch" try this: get some chicken breasts with the skin still on, it's cheaper this way and you can always peel the skin off after cooking. Rinse the breasts well and pat dry. Slice up a lemon into thin discs. Lift the chicken skin away from the meat, do not pull off. Slip the lemon slices between the skin and the meat, the more, the better. You can add tarragon sprigs in with the lemon if you like. sprinkle the top of the chicken with salt and pepper and bake uncoverd in a 350 degree oven for 45 mins- 1 hour, this will depend on how big the breasts are. You can tell if the chicken is done by sticking it with a fork in the thickest part, if the juice that runs out is clear, then the chicken is done. If the juice is slightly red, then cook some more. You can serve this with rice and a salad, the leftovers make great soup or sandwiches.

Try steak. Any respectable cook can prepare a tasty steak. Get a cheap charcoal grill (Wal-mart 20 bucks). Not gas grill because they dont provide the same flavor. You need mesquite charcoal, and lighter fluid. When selecting meat go with a 1 inch thick, rib-eye, sirloin or T-bone. Look for nicly marbeled cuts, more fat means juicer and a better flavor. When seasoning i'm going to recommend a short cut. Montreal steak seasoning or mcormick Grillmates steak rub. Season till spices resonably visible on meat. Than message with fingers till spices are pressed into meat. Do both sides. Wait till charcoal is ashed over and than spread apart. This will allow more air to get in and charcoal will become red hot. Sear steak on both sides for around 4 to 6 mins per side. This time should be adjusted based on how much charcoal your using and distance from meat to heat. After intial searing flip more aften around every 2 min. As a bigginer grillist its OK to cut into meat and check doneness. As you become better you will be able to tell by look, smell and sound if your meat is done. Your preference for doneness is all your own, but if cooking for others shoting for medium would be typical. Before taking meat of grill spoon some melted butter season with garlic on top side of meat. Grilling is really easy once you figure out the basics and flavor cant be beat once you get good, you'll never want to go out once you perfect your own slow smoked, 2 inch thick filet mignon. Good luck.

Well you can always start with chicken. If you have boneless skinless breasts a good way to prepare them is to saute them in butter, when done ( but moist) remove them and add butter to the saute pan and saute sliced onions. when they are translucent remove the onions, return chicken to pan, pile the onions on top and top with cheddar cheese. On low heat cover the pan, when cheese is melted serve with baked potato and a veggie.

If you don't like onions you can substitute green apples cored and sliced in rings. You would want to top those with baby swiss cheese.

Two good sites are: foodnetwork.com and allrecipes.com

I would be a good idea to watch the Food Network Channel, if you have access to it. On their website they have all kinds of recipes , some with videos.

On all recipes, you just list your ingredients, and they give you a recipe for them.

McCormick Kitchens.com and bettycrocker.com are also good sites for recipes.

Best of luck to you. I learned to cook after I became an adult.
