To many, “faith” simply means having a religious belief or following a form of worship. As used in the Bible, however, “faith” basically means total trust, complete, unshakable confidence in God and his promises. It is a quality that marks a disciple of Jesus Christ.
The Bible’s Viewpoint, "True Faith, What is it?"
“WITHOUT FAITH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE HIM WELL, FOR HE THAT APPROACHES GOD MUST BELIEVE THAT HE IS AND THAT HE BECOMES THE REWARDER OF THOSE EARNESTLY SEEKING HIM.”—HEBREWS 11:6.
WHAT is faith? Some explain faith as a religious belief in God without solid proof of his existence. American journalist H. L. Mencken defined faith as “an illogical belief in the occurrence of the improbable.” Is this true faith as described in the Bible? It is vital to have a clear understanding of what faith is because, as quoted above, ‘without faith it is impossible to please God.’
The Bible says: “Faith is being sure of the things we hope for.” Therefore, faith is founded on accurate knowledge, facts on which right decisions can be based. It requires not only belief but a reason for believing.
To illustrate: Perhaps you have a friend of whom you can say: “I trust that man. I can count on him to keep his word. I know that if I have a problem, he will come to my aid.” It is not likely that you would say that about someone you have known for only a day or two, is it? He would have to be someone who had proved his dependability time and again. It should be the same with religious faith, which should produce hope and conviction based on solid, dependable evidence.

Faith is the belief in things unseen. But, with that definition, wouldn't imagination and faith be the same thing? The definition goes deeper than that. Imagination is the believing of things in your mind, while faith is the believing of things that would exist even if you didn't.
But, you wouldn't have to have faith if you could see what you were having to have faith in; that's where you refer back to Hebrews 11:1. Ever seen Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (you'll have to spot me on that, but I think that's the one). That's a leap of faith, at the end where he finally decides to believe in what he cannot see and try to achieve the impossible.
Hope that answers your question. God bless!

Hebrews 11: 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. When you hear God's Word and believe it by faith then you have eternal life. Romans 10: 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. The Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, He was buried and took our sins away and He rose again the third day for our justification. Believe and trust in that. 1 Corinthians 15: 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1 Corinthians 15: 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Now you have read God's Word how to get into God's heaven and you are without excuse. Trust in what He did for you.

Faith is the belief in something without evidence. In this case the belief is in the existence of a supernatural being who does, or does not influence us and the world around us.
There must be a leap of faith because there is no evidence.
Religous people who believe in a supernatural god do so without factual evidence.

Faith, coincidentally cannot be found on my computer's dictionary. So I asked my man what his definition of faith was ~ assumption. My definition would be, trust & belief. I trust God will not only take care of me on this planet, but if I am good & worthy in His glorious eyes, I get to go to paradise. With faith, there is believing without seeing. With faith, there is hope. With faith, there is charity. With faith, there is happiness. With faith, there is whole-/holiness. With faith, there is love. With faith, there is only God. The leap, is the trust without seeing Him. He is the light. The love. The essence of our very beings.

Faith is the evidence of things not seen. Some people will even say, I know dad said he was not coming but I have faith that he will. It is an unknown strength of belief in the positive.

Christian faith is perception in Jesus Christ with the aid of fact the Son of God who paid our debt of sin so as that shall we be forgiven. that's consistent with a historic character, in a definite place, at a particular time, who had many witnesses to what he did and reported. with the aid of fact over 500 of them witnessed Jesus resurrected after his crucifixion, they have been confident that he became, certainly, the sinless Son of God and their lives have been converted as a consequence. lots of them refused to recant their faith in Jesus even whilst confronted with a ghastly dying. no one would do this for a delusion! enable the Flying Spaghetti Monster devotees produce their martyrs for their 'faith' - no, i thought no longer...

faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true.
