I've only had my puppy a week, and he hasn't had a very good appetite since I got him. At first I thought it was because he was still getting used to our routine and whatnot, but it seems he's losing alot of weight and doesn't want to play as much as I remember puppies wanting to play. He still has regular bm's and urinates. He throws up his food once in a while, and today it looked like he had some blood in his stool. I'm for sure taking him to the vet tomorrow, but the closest emergency vet is over an hour away and costs 5 times the amount of what my regular vet costs. I take excellent care of him, treat him like one of my kids, and only want what's best for him. Has anyone else had something similar happen to their new puppy? He doesn't seem to be in pain, temp is good, could he just be missing his littermates?

He's 9 weeks and up to date on all of his shots, and has been wormed at 4 weeks and at 6 weeks.

I'm using the same brand of puppy food that the lady was using for him.

If he is throwing up his food and has blood in his stool he may have parvo. Dogs infected with parvo are also very tired and lethargic. Parvo is a life treatening virus that is transmitted through feces of infected dogs. You have to take your puppy to the vet as soon as possible. When you go to the vet be sure to bring a recent stool sample. Only by stool analysis can it be determined if your puppy has parvo. There are vaccinations for parvo that every dog should get so talk to your vet or local humane society to try to set up appointments to get these vaccinations. If the vet determines it is not parvo then your puppy may just be adjusting to his new diet. Good luck and best wishes for you and your puppy!

It could be that he still has worms. This will be easily fixed. Worse case - and I'm sorry to even say this- is parvo. I got a puppy from the pound once and about a week after getting him he became lethargic, stopped eating and began having diarrhea. I took him to the vet and found out it was parvo. It was painful to watch. Please take him to the vet asap. If you catch it early enough, you can treat it. I sincerely wish you the best of luck...

IT could be a lot fothings. Hopefully he is up to daye on his vaccines and has been wormed. You need to get him to the vet tomorrow. It does not seem like you need to rush someplace tonight, but call for an appointment first thing in the morning.

Puppies should not lose weight.
