Yuck !! I love color. Maybe if you put the plants in some cool containers. But what about up above the plants. Too stark and cold for me. More like a waiting room in a sanitarium.

White paint often has a lot of titanium in it which makes it very bright. You can get other kinds of white (try eco paints) which give a different feel.
White paint doesn't discolour from age, just from wear and tear. Blue is the colour that suffers most from the light, but modern paints shouldn't have this problem.
I think a white apartment with lots of interesting things on the walls and lots of green plants, as you say, sounds great.

i love white walls. I have them with loads of modern art in bright colours on the wall.
Also white, creams, beiges and black look very sophisticated together.
white is great- just standard matt white- not brilliant white.
all paint discolours- but with white you can repaint and touch it up and it is easy to match up!
white and green plants- lovely really fresh. Makes room look bigger too. go for it.

Great as long as you don't smoke or have kids with dirty sticky hands touching the walls!! White may get discoloured eventually but it's the easiest and cheapest colour to buy and give the walls another lick!! I think white can look really nice with splashes of colour in pictures and soft furnishings!

To be honest,i hate white.I don't mind the ceilings done in it,but nothing else.
It does look nice and fresh for a while, but then as you say,it discolours quick.
What i done when i repainted my place was,i bought a 5ltr tin of white silk emulsion, and added 4 cocoa coloured tester pots to it,gave it a really good stir.
Now i've got a really pale cocoa colour on my walls, and still looks good with my plants.

White looks great to give small rooms a bigger and airy feel, but avoid painting big rooms all white as there will be acres of white and it's just too much. For bigger rooms maybe try magnolia or some off-white eggshell, or break it up with one wall painted in a different colour for a bit of relief. Relief walls only work well in bigger rooms, or oddly shaped rooms with lots of walls.
To break up acres of white or to give a small room a bigger feel you could try mirrors or matching tiles (in places like alcoves or half-height room divides etc.) just so that it does not look so boring.
Always paint the woodwork white or off-white, or light/beige, and never be tempted to paint it very dark. It will look too distracting with dark lines everywhere and you will probably regret it. (And changing it back to white gloss will be a pain.)
Never ever paint a ceiling anything other than white, it will absorb too much light, over-emphasise the ceiling and close the room in.

Just had my whole house redecorated in white...Every single room is white....white....white....white and it looks fabulous. Coloured accessories look fantastic with it and so what if it gets discoloured you can easily put a coat of paint over it. Every colour will go with it. You will not have to worry about colours clashing. Look at the Mediterranean houses they are all white inside and they look fabulous

white walls make your home look bright and clean. Also decorating the white walls go with anything in the way of color. Green plants make it look very warm and inviting.

White as pure is rather harsh.
It does discoulour rapidly.
I've always thought just the slightest hint of colour added does wonders. Not so it is even noticable.
Orange for study rooms and kitchens.
Cool cobalt blue for sleeping rooms.
Seems to make it much nicer to live in.
