I have a file that was sent by e-mail from Microsoft Works. Unfortunately, I only have Microsoft Word. When I try to open it, it just shows a bunch of nonsense characters. What can I do?

Works and Word are two entirely different programs.

What the sender should have done is save the Works as a txt file. Can you ask the sender to open the file, use "save as" and save as the filetype txt.

No, you can't open a .wks in Word. Microsft has a converter, but I couldn't make it work. Maybe you will have better luck.

Or ask the sender to save as a .txt and re-send.

I thought Works was a lower form of Excel, not Word. Do you have/ can you try Excel to open it?
