First, if you want to loose weight and be more healthy don't get on a diet. Make lifestyle changes that will improve your health, the way you feel, and the way you look. At the age eleven, you don't want to take out any of the major food groups because you are still growing and do not want to stunt your growth.

Try to eat 5-6 times a day, very small portions. Take snacks to school so you can eat between classes. An bag of baby carrots, and apple, a bag of 20 pretzels. Don't eat past 7pm. Always eat breakfast to get your metabolism going. If you eat ceral for breakfast stay away from sugary cereal. Eat raisen bran or fruit and yogat special k. Eat a lot of vegtables, stay away from butters and oils, and only eat 2-3 servings of bread a day. If you are going to eat fats, have a little peanut butter or avocado.

Ask your parents not to buy chips and cookies for the next couple months so you wont be tempted. But do teat yourself to one of your cravings once a weekend. Have a small bowl of sorbet or frozen yogart.

My dear young friend! first give yourself a pat on the back for being so consciouncious about your weight which these days has become a health problem for a lot of people. Second, don't be heart-broken if you are a little over weight because you are only 11 and have plenty of time ahead to correct if anything need to be corrected. The fact you are openly discussing about your concern is a wonderful thing that you are doing.

I agree with your doctor that puberty might be playing a role in your gaining weight. But just don't loose sleep on it. Play a lot - you know like outdoor games, walk dancing and things like that where you have fun and love to do it. Then I would keep away from junk food as much as possible.

Things will soon turn your way. Good Luck.

Check out this link. I just read it this morning on AOL and it is an article that discusses cutting back on calories. You say that you don't eat that much, but what kinds of foods are you eating? Are you eating breakfast? or are you skipping breakfast and not eating much throughout the day and then binging at night?

I've always managed to stay a nice healthy weight and I do so by avoiding processed food (soda, fake cheese, margarine, chips, fast food in general, etc) and opting for healthy snacks like apples, string cheese, and cereal. I think the reason that so many Americans are overweight is that they eat so much processed food. Ask your parents to limit the amount of junk food that they purchase and take your lunch to school. This will help you to avoid temptation. While gaining weight through puberty is common, being overweight is not healthy. This is a time when your body is establishing how it regulates hormones and if it has to concentrate on the burdens of being overweight, you are more likely to develop diabetes and heart disease later in life.

Good for you for being concerned. Don't starve yourself or anything. Just make healthier choices and eat more frequent yet smaller portions.

I'd ask your doctor what you can do to help you, one way you can burn calories is to stay active, run or go for walks. Watch what you eat, cut down on the greasy fast food. If it's this important to you talk to your parents and your doctor.
