Tricky question. Now that I'm over 60, I have to be careful. People get annoyed when I offer them a seat. I get a 'so you think you're healthier, younger, more active than me' look. Most of the time I just glare at obviously younger and more agile people until they are shamed into giving up their seat.

The last time I was on public transport was in Dublin last year, my hubby and I gave our seats up for an elderly couple and made friends for life, when I do go on public transport I only give my seat up for the elderly and heavily pregnant women only.

Pay It Forward - give up your seat to who ever you see is in need of sitting down at that moment. Don't be bothered by the funny looks; it is because they are not accustomed to such kindness, but that should not be a reason to stop offering... Why are you counting the years you last gave up your seat for women? Don't you think that's a waste of energy? You have it in you to be kind; if it makes you feel good, then just keep on doing it...

I understand that rules are changing very quickly, and as an able-bodied woman, I would rather you retain your seat and give it up for someone who needs it (I would refuse with a smile, though, rather than with a funny look).
I suggest the following--give your seat up for:
The elderly
The disabled
The visibly pregnant and/or a parent with small children
A person struggling with packages
Can't think of any other situation right now, but I hope that helps! All the best to you!

I am a dialysis patient and often feeling sick and tired (literally) - BUT I look healthy. I sometimes get people who look about 60 and fighting fit glaring at me if I haven't given my seat up - but I know that I could not physically stand (and ensure I travel at quiet times so I can get a seat). I give up my seat if I am feeling well and I see a pregnant lady or an elderly person - or someone that might be young - but looks absolutely shattered and poorly. For me it's not a matter of manners but need.

Public transportation is slower and there is way less ought to guard products and human beings in maximum cases. it relatively is inner maximum autos which pose the genuine threat to risk-free practices. right here in France, I basically walked out of the wellness midsection with my infants interior the sling. I had a motor vehicle seat for the 1st yet they did no longer look. For my next 2, nicely, we lived around the line! i'm unsure if this could nicely be a sturdy situation because of the fact I see maximum of risky issues with infants in automobiles right here. The French placed infants in cumbersome coats interior the seat. The straps are particularly loose. Small infants journey in boosters or no longer something in any respect. infants could nicely be grew to become forward dealing with at as youthful as 9 pounds, no count what age so 8-9 month olds are using dealing with foward. Tethering is uncommon and there are nevertheless 3 factor seats bought. as quickly as they hit 18 pounds, there are not any seats made which will shop them in a 5 factor seat. automobiles not often have tether hooks and maximum motor vehicle seats at the instant are not made with them. risk-free practices basically isn't substantial to the French and with their severe twist of destiny value, there's a lot room for progression in inner maximum automobiles, i'm no longer even stressful approximately slow public transportation or greater sturdy trains.

I used to give up my seat to anyone who looked older than me, pregnant women etc.
Recently it seems as if I am one of the older ones and the "kids" do not do it and even spread over more than one seat. Worst is the parents never seem to do anything about it.
It makes me feel like an old fart, but what are the youth of today coming to!!!?

Old people ride the bus for free here and have seats designated for them so if your in one the bus driver will kick you out of it. I would give up my seat to a pregnant lady but not a fat one, maybe standing will give them a little bit of a workout and they can loose a little bit of weight. I believe seating on a bus should be first come first serve. Oh and ladys with infants (that require holding), they cant very well hold onto anything if they are holding a young child.

I'm a female, and I give up my seat to anyone who needs it. If there is only one person standing, I will generously give up my seat. One should always put others first, no matter what.
