Societies with easy access to food have always overeaten and valued thinness.
Fattening food (high in carbs and sugar) is the cheapest.
Processed food is made with the cheapest possible ingredients, so tends to be unsatisfying to the stomach, leading to overeating. It's a lot easier to overeat by eating food which is low in protein.
Sugar rich food is marketed heavily to kids

My mother had a four-word cure for childhood obesity: "Go out and play!" Between sedentary activities and poor food choices, the epidemic of overweight kids is no surprise whatsoever. The cures? Turn off the TV and computer. Stock up on fruit and healthful snacks. Do not use sweets as a reward for good behavior, or as a consolation for unhappy experiences. Parents need to model an energetic approach to life. Walk places rather than drive when possible. (I'm only too well aware that suburban living requires that kids be driven to activities. Safer bike lanes would be a good thing to get kids out of the back seat of the SUV.)

Being obese as a child is not that child's fault, but it is the parents. Parents should stop being so lazy, and cook healthy meals instead of handing there kid a bag of chips. Also candy and treats should only be allowed on special occasions, that way they don't get in a bad habit of eating too much.

Parents should stop feeding their children crazy processed food - (potatos in the shape of happy faces, dinosaur chicken nuggets. ?!?!??!), and ease up on the soda and fast food. Children eat too much of the wrong food and don't exercise enough. When you think about it, controlling a child's weight is much, much easier than an adult's. They have faster metabolisms, more energy, and you have more (or should have!) more control over what they eat.
I'm not a parent, but if I was, I would set boundaries for my kids on things like food, television, video games. And I wouldn't reward them with whatever they wanted to either keep them busy or because I was feeling guilty about not spending enough time with them.
Single parent families, divorce, kids not being raised by their parents....it all adds up!

Fresh food and very little animal meat or fat ( such as cooking oil) real butter and low fat milk. Help them get into the habit of walking or playing outside after a meal, this will help them to eat less because they will be aware of their tummy's hurting from the activity. Play with them in action games like basketball and tennis and you too will be more fit. Encourage them to choose oranges and apples as snacks and when visiting friends. Teach them to say no to desert and birthday cake and ice cream etc. If they take a small bite or share their portion then they can enjoy a sweet occasionally. Teach them to cook and prepare healthy meals and they will carry the habit with them when they grow up. Holidays are coming and temptation will abound. Work up your ideas on a reward for watching what they eat. Good question.

obesity can kill, i read it on the poster being posted in the clinic. we are happy to see our babies are fat and have a good appetite, so we let it, and give our child of course the best foods. without knowing or we are lack of information regarding the proper dieting of giving the food supplement, we over look the safetyness of our childs health. if the child age is two years old, and the child still overweight, better consult a pediatrician, before its too late. obesity started from the younger age. parents should have the knowledge of proper feeding and proper food supplement for the growth and to avoid being obessed at early age. obesity has all the complication, like heart atttack at early teens, or brain stroke, or slow or poor memory, depends on the body system. if the obessed child or person dont have any light exercises, the stage of being obessed might be worsen as time passes by. diabetis is one of the counter part of being obessed. the best solution to avoid obesity is proper diet, right food supplement and nutrients, and most specially a regular check-up to childs pediatrician or physician. in additions to these, avoid giving the child of junk foods and softdrinks. my only grandson health was on the first stage of obesity, now its controled by the advice from his pediatrician.

In some ways i think that it's because kids don't get as much exercise as they use to not as much food because didn't kids eat just as much back then as they do now??
Plus, most kids worried about there weight are just sightly over weight and people just believe that kids are very overweight because they have a little bit of fat.

I think stop Fast Food chains and go for more healthy types of restaurants. Better school lunches, no snacks and candy at schools, more exercise activities, more exercise clubs and groups, not so many TV programs make a time for kids TV shows like 8PM to 10PM. Making foods better and with less calories.
I hope this helps answer your Q. :)
