i don't know if its so much the food, as it is kids just sitting on their butts all day. i mean they just sit and watch tv, or play on the pc or video games. and then they eat a bag of chips, or box of cookies and soda. its the parents fault. the kids need to be outside playing. and what's up with all the scooters...these lazy kids dont' even ride bikes anymore. i actually saw a scooter the other day with a seat, which means the kid was so lazy he can't stand on the scooter, he has to sit. lazy little kids is the problem. and parents who allow them to be lazy are even worse.

Too many parents let the TV babysit their kids, or let their kids sit and play video/computer games. A child needs at least 1-2 hours of playtime outside...some kind of physical activity. Also a lot of childhood obesity has to do with a lot of parents not following theit doctors orders. Too many parents, in an effort to get their babies to sleep through the night sooner, start them on cereal before 4 months of age, and that can set them up for obesity, diabetes, and food allergies. As long as a child is getting the proper ammount of exercise, eating fast food will not cause them to become over-weight. My son gets fast foods once in a while, but we also go outside and kick the soccer ball around and go for walks regularly. Kind of the same thing for adult. Even fatty foods are ok in moderation as long as you are not just sitting.

I'm definately NOT an expert, but I do know that children develop their fat cells very early in life (early infancy), and that these same cells stay with them for the rest of their lives, and play a huge roll in determining obesity (or lack thereof) in future years. For this reason, a balanced diet is important from the youngest age.

What I know personally, not searching the internet.. if you start your child learning how to get food into his own hands from the fridge or cupboards at too early an age.. he will continue to stuff his face, and will not stop.. possibly never stop...

Feed your child vegetables, fruits, the right amount of carbs, proteins and fats. Consult a Pediatrician immediately.

Some Steps to Prevent...
Personally I think television and computers should be limited to certain times of the day. Parents should watch the intake of colas and candy. Vegtables should be incorporated in every child's diet. Also, the parent should get out and play with thier kids as much as possible to help them understand, being active is staying healthy.

Instead of looking for everyone's opinion on the subject, why don't you go on webmd.com, and see what the medical experts say on the subject. Go to the website, and type in "child obesity".

its sad. i personally think it starts with the parents not feeding the children healthier snacks instead of big macs. but some people say it is the childs responsibility to ask the parents for healthier snacks.

it's not healthy for the child. take him / her to a child nutricianist. your local health department can refer you to one if necessary.
