Hey sarahe086,

The settelers called the Lakota indians Sioux, and the name stuck when they were moved onto the reservations. You have the Sioux site above, here are some others.

The name you are thinking of is 'Sioux'. This is a word originally used by the French trappers to describe the Native Americans they encountered. Sioux means 'enemy' in French. For this reason, many members of the 'Sioux' tribe prefer to go by their own tribe name - 'Lakota'. Others don't have a problem with the label 'Sioux' and continue to use it.

I know a few Sioux Indians. I am 1/16 Osage and look like I just stepped off the boat from Ireland. White as snow, blue eyes and dark red hair.

2% is such a small percentage......... but yes, there is the Sioux indian tribe.

He is such a small part native, that's why he looks 'white as snow' - what is his other 98% comprised of?......

Even in genetics, its 'majority rule" LOL - so what ever he is MOSTLY.... that's what he's mostly gonna' look like
